Exhaustion

I was supposed to go to our Kiwanis club meeting tonight.

Instead, I am on the couch in my pj’s eating a bowl of chili I made for our club’s potluck tonight. That’s how bad of a day it’s been.

It all started this morning when I asked Lucy to put her shoes on. She’s 3. She can put them on herself. She just doesn’t want to. And, that’s when my day of back-to-back-to-back temper tantrums began. Because, you know, I am the meanest mom EVER.

And, so, my little drama queen spent about 45 minutes under my bed crying her little eyes out. She wouldn’t talk to me or come out but would scream at me when she would hear my show on TV. Yeah. She was a joy to be around.

Then, there was the meltdown at Kroger because she didn’t want to sit in the cart. The CAR cart. The car cart that I got because she won’t ride in anything else even though I can’t navigate it to save my life. I’m sorry, but my little munchkin is slow, and I was in a hurry, so riding in the cart was her only option.

And, then…THEN, she woke up in a crappy mood from her nap. She didn’t want to get out of bed. She didn’t want to get dressed. But, she DID want to go to Kiwanis. U-G-H.

So, here I am. Enjoying the quiet, watching the news and hoping my splitting headache goes away soon.

Super Bowl Sunday

Wow. What a game last night. I’m a Baltimore native, so I was definitely cheering my hometown team on last night.

The Ravens blew away the 49ers in the first half but, as we have seen in other rounds of the playoffs, the 49ers are a second half team, and that certainly was the case last night. After the crazy power outage, momentum switched, and I really thought we were going to blow it. It was like we were watching the Falcons game all over again.

But, we pulled it out, and the Lombardi Trophy is going home to Baltimore. Yay!

We had big plans to have friends over for the game. I came up with a pretty good menu – vegetarian chili, pizza rolls, chicken nuggets for the kids, pasta salad, chips and dip, and cookies – and Lucy and I spent some time out picking up decorations and last minute items.

But, when Joe returned home from his 30-mile (yes, that was 3-0) run, he wasn’t feeling quite right. We waited until about 45 minutes until our guests were supposed to arrive to give him a chance to start feeling better but had to call it off. We’re not sure if he had a stomach bug or it was something with the long run and amount of fuel. In any case, he wasn’t in any shape to have people over.

Lucy was REALLY disappointed because she was looking forward to playing with the kids who were supposed to come. I think she thought she was being punished because she kept begging us to let them come. It broke our hearts. So, we set up the party for her. I didn’t make all the food I was planning, but I set up some decorations and put out some food for us all. She had a blast!

Lucy had her first taste of grape soda.

IMAG1618
We watched some football. We watched a time lapse video of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.

And, we played some games.

It was a nice, fun, family night. Gooooo Ravens! Hopefully next year, we’ll be watching our Falcons in the Super Bowl!

A Case of the Mondays

I’ve felt so off today. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I haven’t slept well the last few nights or that our day was completely thrown off by a backward schedule. I’m not sure.

I was wide awake at 5:30 a.m. (ugh) and laid in bed trying to go back to sleep until 7:30 when Lucy decided it was time for me to get up (she had been up since 6:30). So, that was that. We had breakfast and headed out to the store, hitting up CVS and Kroger (two trips to Kroger because I left all my coupons at home and found some new mega sale items). We got some fabulous deals, though, so it was all good. Lucy was a trooper, especially during my second trip when the register locked up on the cashier. More on that later.

I tried to do a little bit of work when we got home, but then Lucy told me she was tired and wanted to nap with me. Since I was tired too, I was happy to oblige, and we were in bed by 11:30 a.m. Yay. That meant a late lunch around 1:30ish when we woke up, and then it was time for some more work until 4:30 p.m., when I got her ready and took her to meet Joe for Kiwanis.

And, that was our day. Completely backward, and I feel like I got nothing accomplished. I guess those kinds of day are OK, though, huh? Tomorrow, I hope to be back on schedule, and I’m hoping to take Lucy to the park to enjoy the outdoors before storms roll in on Wednesday morning.

Have a great week!

Friday Randoms

  • It has been a CHILLY day here in Georgia. We were supposed to get some freezing rain/sleet this afternoon, but so far we haven’t gotten anything. I wish we’d get some snow. We keep getting the “threat” of it but nothing to show for it.
  • Today was a FABULOUS mail day. I got two rings I bought from 1saleaday.com, a bracelet purchased with my Fab.com credit, two Thirty-One orders (I cannot WAIT to use my new Inside-Out bag!) and a princess keyboard for Lucy. I got a great deal on it, so I snatched it up to put away for either her birthday or Christmas. She loves music. I have a feeling that in the future I’ll be looking for an affordable acoustic guitar.
  • Lucy had her first haircut today. She did great, and I – surprising – did not shed a tear. I have a post dedicated to that coming up soon.
  • My first Thirty-One home party is on Sunday! I’m both excited and nervous. I hope it goes well!
  • And now, I think I will go join my kiddo for a brief nap. Happy Friday!

A Day in Our Life

Today was a pretty relaxing day for us. I was going to make a Publix run this morning but decided I just felt like staying home instead. Want to know what we do on our days in? Check it out:

7:30 a.m. – Time to wake up! Lucy slept in, so this was a nice, “late” wake-up time.

8:00 a.m. – Lucy colors. I play on the Internet.

IMAG1487
8:15 a.m. – Lucy plays in her room, eats breakfast and hangs out with Joe while he gets ready for work. I get some blog work done.

9:05 a.m. – It’s time to stamp! Are you ready? Break it down. (All you Yo Gabba fans should get that!)

IMAG1492
9:14 a.m. – Lucy is done and off to something else! Like chasing the cats around.

9:15 a.m. – Nail painting time!

IMAG1493
9:25 a.m. – Nails are done (I hate those stupid little nail jewels!). Now, it’s watch Tinkerbell while Mommy does some more blog work.

IMAG1494
(Are you getting tired yet? Because I sure am!)

10:17 a.m. – We’re puttering around the house. I’m watching Last Chance Kitchen from Top Chef and do some more blog work, and Lucy is playing with her Care Bears.

11:06 a.m. – At this point, we’ve done some snuggling, and I’ve squelched a tantrum over Lucy not being able to pull her PJ pants up while sitting on the couch. The littlest things set her off. Also, I am ready for a nap. Is it nap time yet??

IMAG1497
11:10 a.m. – Lunch time!

11:30 a.m. – Lunch is over, and Lucy is now running back-and-forth across the kitchen shouting, “Get mark, get set, go!” Time to shower and do the lunch dishes!

1:14 p.m. – More coloring time for Lucy while I work on plans for my upcoming Thirty-One party.

1:44 p.m. – Nap time!!!!

4:00 p.m. – Wake up and start getting ready for gymnastics.

4:30 p.m. – Leave for gymnastics.

5:00 p.m. – Gymnastics class starts. Hilarity ensues. Seriously. There’s nothing funnier than a bunch of 3-year-olds trying to do cartwheels and such.

5:30 p.m. – Leave gymnastics and head to dinner at Johnny’s New York Style Pizza.

IMAG1498
IMAG1502
6:15 p.m. – Leave Johnny’s and head to Kmart to see what’s left in the Going-Out-Of-Business sale.

7:30 p.m. – Leave Kmart (a lot poorer) and head to Kroger, where Joe pumps my gas (love a man who will do that when it’s cold) and then heads home with Lucy while I grab a few things.

8:00 p.m. – Home. Finally.

8:30 p.m. – The day is over. Time to brush teeth, read stories and put Lucy to bed.

The Facts of Cady

I’m liking up with Whitney at I Wore Yoga Pants for ‘The Facts of Me‘ today.

1. My hair is naturally wavy but you wouldn’t know it with how heavy it is.

2. I’m a vegetarian and have been since I was in elementary school.

3. I’ve always wanted a little girl, and I was pretty darn happy when we found out that’s what our kiddo was going to be. I’ll admit (and, please don’t think I’m horrible), but I probably would have been a little disappointed if we had had a boy.

4. I bite/pick at my fingers. It’s a horrible habit, but I just can’t stop.

5. I have rheumatoid arthritis. I was diagnosed when I was 20.

6. I love carbs. Seriously. Bread, rice, pasta, potatoes – yum! I’m probably more carbetarian than vegetarian.

7. I hate red wine.

8. I also hate beer. It’s way too bitter.

9. I love sports. Baseball, football and hockey are my favorites.

10. Related: The hubs and I are on a mission to visit all of the Major League stadiums.

11. I’m a writer. I love it.

12. I’m addicted to blogging.

13. I REALLY want to lose weight, but I hate working out. Ugh. Why can’t it be easy?
