Week in Phone Pics ~ 3/52

Well, 2013 is just chugging along by. I’m enjoying sharing the pictures I take with my phone every week because, let’s face it, that’s how I take most of my pictures.

What did we do last week? We:

  • Had cheers with our drinks at Dunkin’ Donuts;
  • Did some snuggling on the couch;
  • Sang along to Dora Rocks with our karaoke machine;
  • Played princesses with AJ;
  • Went to gymnastics;
  • Made a Valentine’s mailbox;
  • Mommy’s head met her car, and the car won;
  • We dressed up in our clothes for Heaven in Sabbath School;
  • And there was some snuggling with Dizzy at bed time.

We also:

  • Sat with friends at church;
  • Went over to their house afterward for lunch and play time;
  • And, Daddy got Mommy’s favorite – Japanese – for dinner on Saturday night!

All-in-all, it was another good week! I’m looking forward to what this week has in store for us.

I’m linking up with Living Like the Kings.

Sunday Confessions ~ 01/20

I’m linking up with Every Day is a New Adventure.

1. I am trying hard to be at peace with possibly only having one child, but I still feel stabs of jealousy when I see someone I know is pregnant. I wish I didn’t and could be completely happy for them but, well, I’m just not to that point yet. Darn infertility.

2. I love being a SAHM but some days my daughter drives me so crazy all I want to do is go back to working full time.

3. Last week after gymnastics, I totally let Lucy eat a donut before dinner.

4. I don’t want to send Lucy to preschool because it will mean she’s no longer my baby.

5. Related: Deep down, I’m really glad her birthday comes after the September deadline for kindergarten so Lucy won’t be able to start until she’s almost six.

‘What’s Under There?’

We went out to grab some pizza for dinner tonight. While Lucy and I were sitting at our table before we left, she pulled the top of my shirt out and said *very* loudly, “What’s under your shirt, Mommy?? What’s under there?? I want to see!”

I’m pretty glad the people at the table next to us were old and likely couldn’t hear her!

Rain, Rain, Go Away

It’s been raining here in North Georgia since Monday. Seriously. Non-stop rain. It feels like it’s been raining forever.

This morning, I woke up to sunny skies. It won’t last long. A storm is supposed to roll in tonight, bringing with it possible snow tomorrow. So, I’m going to enjoy the break while I can. And, by that I mean, Lucy and I are going to make a Publix run and have lunch with Joe. It’s still too wet to do anything else. Ugh.

As much as I hate the constant rain, I am really looking forward to possible snow flurries tomorrow. I wish we could head to the mountains tonight where it’s supposed to accumulate a bit, but Joe really can’t take two more days off this week after missing work yesterday, so we’ll make due with whatever we get here at the house. Now that I no longer work in the media, I can actually be excited about snow! That’s the one thing I miss about living up north.

So, I think that this would be a good night for a spicy bowl of chili. Yum! I hope you all enjoy your day!

A Newspaper Love Story

When people ask me how Joe and I met, I sometimes feel like it’s a convoluted story, one that really doesn’t make sense to anyone but us. But, it does, and after I’ve told it, I’m told just how sweet it is.

And so today, I’m sharing it with you.

It all began in the newspaper biz. I was working at a small daily newspaper in Northwest Georgia, and Joe was working for another small 6-day-a-week paper about 45 minutes south. I was working on a feature story on the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team and, after doing some Google searches, I came across a story that Joe had written on the same subject.

So, I emailed him. And that, my friends, was the beginning.

We became friends through email. We emailed numerous times a day just to chat about things. We were both in relationships, so it was really just a friendship. Soon, we both ended those relationships and began new ones. And, our friendship carried on.

But then, we both broke up with our significant others again and, after growing our relationship via email for about a year, Joe asked me out on a date. Our first date was a double date with a mutual friend with whom I worked and with whom Joe went to college. We went to dinner at Chili’s and then saw Bridget Jones’ Diary at a theater in Chattanooga.

And the rest, as they say, is history. That was toward the end of 2004. The next year, I moved to Joe’s town and, in January 2006, he proposed.

Yes, he proposed by making a scrapbook page. I was a huge scrapbooker then (not so much since Lucy came along), and it was seriously romantic. Love this man. And, nine months later, we were married.

Sure, it hasn’t all been easy. We’ve had our ups and downs and our challenges, especially with trying to grow our family, but there isn’t one other person I would rather do it with.

Monday, Monday

We have a relatively busy week planned. I’ve been doing some blog work this morning, and we’re heading to Joe’s parents’ after he gets off work for the night. Fingers crossed we’ll be there by 7 p.m. to watch Dora Rocks! on Nickelodeon. Lucy has been super psyched about that.

Tomorrow, Joe and his dad are going to Valdosta, and Lucy and I are going to muck around Douglasville. I think we’ll hit up Chuck E. Cheese before we meet one of my friends and her son for lunch. We’ll get home later that night, just in time to do some straightening up for a play date I’m hosting on Wednesday. So far, only one mom is coming, but I hope that will change and we’ll have more people show up. I really hope to start hosting play dates more often.

Thursday and Friday are the only days we don’t have anything planned. Who knows if that will change, but for now, I’m hoping for some lazy, relaxed days. I’ll probably have some more blog work to do, and I’m hoping that the temperature will be mild enough for a trip to the park. Lucy could spend all day at the park and be completely happy.

What do you have planned for this week? Anything fun on your agenda?
