Yesterday, I walked down to Quiznos for my daily Baked Lays and Diet Mtn. Dew snack. I’m a regular, so the two managers who are there in the afternoons know me.

As I was filling my cup at the drink station, one of the managers came out from the back, stood next to me and started picking at her teeth. Then, she turned to me and said, “There! I finally got it! That piece of roast beef has been bothering me all day.”

Yes, this is a person who makes food for customers. I can never eat there again.

Holiday Preparations

I’m pretty lucky. Since I don’t host a Thanksgiving meal for either of our families, I don’t have a lot of preparations. However, I had several things on my to-do list for today:

Lip and eyebrow wax *check*

Hair cut and style *check*

These pictures don’t do it justice. It’s super cute. In fact, when I went up front to pay, the woman at the desk said, “Wow, you look trendy now!” Did I really look that bad before?? Oh well. The cut is shorter than I normally go, and I was nervous at first but I really like it. The families will be suprised when they see me!

Tonight I have to go to the store and pick up a few things before going home to make an apple pie. Tomorrow, I’m going to make oven roasted cauliflower at my parents’. I saw Emeril make it on the Food Network while waiting at my doctor’s office today, and it looked so good and easy that I thought I’d give it a try. It’s nice and healthy and is something different to have with our meal. It’s definitely going to be a pizza for dinner night I think!

Creating Carnivores

I love Thanksgiving. Not only do I enjoy spending time with both sides of our families, but I love, love, love Thanksgiving dinner. My family has the same thing for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, and I never get tired of it. Our meal traditionally includes Worthington Turkee Slices folded up with stuffing in the middle, mashed potatoes, wild rice with vegetarian chicken, veggies and dessert. The turkee slices are a great alternative to real turkey, and they’re really pretty good.

Last night, my dad told me that Worthington has discontinued the turkee slices. With only a few days to go before Thanksgiving, we’re scrambling trying to find something to replace it. We found some kind of vegetarian turkey loaf, but I’m not really holding high hopes for it. I’m bummed because there’s really nothing else on the market to replace the turkee slices. My mom joked that Worthington officials are trying to turn us all to eating meat.

At least one member of our family will have turkee slices for the holidays. My mom sent several cans back to Taiwan with Oriona when she came to visit in September. I sure hope Ryan rations them!

Spending a few hours together — my grandmother has been at a nursing home for the last two weeks for rehab because she broke her hip during a fall. She came home for a few hours on Saturday, and is expected back for good just before Thanksgiving. My grandpa has really missed her.

Weight Watchers: Week 2

Result: -2
Total: -4.4

I was a little bummed about being 0.6 pounds from my first 5 pound sticker, but I was still really happy with a 2 pound loss. I really didn’t feel good about last week. Plus, the night before my weigh-in was the New Kids on the Block concert, and even though I watched what I ate for dinner and counted into my points for the day I was still nervous. I think I’ll continue to be nervous and apprehensive for a while, but I’m sure that’s normal.

I hope this 2 pound a week weight loss continues. At that rate, I’ll be around 12 pounds lost by Thanksgiving. However, I’m sure it will slow. I’ll be happy with even 1 pound a week. Anything 1 pound and more is good in my book, though I have to keep telling myself that any loss, no matter how small, is a loss.
