Tights vs. Hose

I always dread the winter for one big reason: figuring out what kind of shoes to wear to work. I normally end up wearing my boots almost daily during the winter because all my dressy shoes are sandals or open toes, and I refuse to wear hose. I hate pantyhose with a passion. They run and tear *so* easily that I’m constantly buying new pairs.

I’m thinking about getting a pair of black tights and trying them out this winter. I have one pair of closed toe shoes that I can think of off hand, but I might need to get another pair. I figure tights are thicker than hose, so they probably won’t rip as easily. Plus, they’ll keep my legs warmer. What do you wear in the winter to work? Tights? Hose? Boots?

Hitting the Road

We’re about to head off. Yay. I’m glad we came up to Chattanooga last night, though. We had a great time at Randy’s softball game (he got two hits and two runs), and we got to meet his new girlfriend. I really like her. She’s very friendly and bubbly. She wasn’t at all shy, as I would have expected since it was her first time meeting us.

We also had a nice time talking with my dad and then visiting with my grandparents. My grandparents were surprised to see us, and it was nice to hang out with them since we haven’t seen them in a while.

Tonight, we will find out if our station is the National Assocation of Broadcaster’s oldies station of the year. We kind of think we might have won because my station manager received a call from the NAB making sure he was going to be there and who they needed to list as coming on stage *if* they win. Maybe they ask that of every finalist, but we’re thinking positively. My manager said I will be in his acceptance speech if we do, since I’m the one who submitted our station. I told him he’ll have to call me on his cell phone so I can hear it. 🙂

Joe is coming home today! He has been in Albany, Ga. since Wednesday for a museum conference. This was the first time we’ve spent a night apart since we got married, and I was not a big fan of it. It was hard coming home to no one but the cats, and it was lonely making dinner for myself and watching tv alone in the evenings. But, the real reason I missed him was because I had to clean out the litter box! This has been the first time I’ve had to do that since we moved in together three years ago. Am I spoiled or what?

I know he’s going to have more business trips. He was supposed to go on a week-long trip to Jekyl Island in January but is no longer going because the museum is opening the week before, and in April he’ll be gone for a week for a conference in Florida. I’m thinking about meeting him there for the weekend if he’ll be near either Miami or Tampa Bay so we can hit another baseball stadium.

I’m sure I’ll get more used to his being gone, but for now I’m super excited to see him in just a few hours.

Making Shopping Easier

I’ve been thinking lately about adding a e-commerce type program to my business Web site so I can accept credit cards online. Right now, people who purchase cards from me send me a check and I send them the cards. It’s basically on the honor system. I really want to enable credit card processing, which would make it more secure on my end because payment is instantaneous, but I don’t know if it’s something I should do now or wait until later. There are several I’ve been looking at getting a merchant account at www.onlinecheck.com. The fee per transaction is relatively low and there are no annual fees, but there are monthly fees (which I suppose is normal since they have to make money somehow), and there’s a monthly minimum, which I take to mean a minimum number of credit card transactions per month. They do have a free 30-day trial period during which you have a free merchant account they only charge you per transaction. That’s a great way to test out the software and make sure it’s what I want. I haven’t totally decided if this is what I’m going to do, though I know that I’ll need to in the future as my business grows, but if I do decide to, I think adding it during the holiday season would be the best time to do so. I know I’ll be getting a lot of orders then.

We changed the galleries on Joe’s photography Web site, and I think it looks *really* good now. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. His whole site is up and going now. Check it out and let me know what you think. He’s been getting a lot of traffic from surrounding counties, which is great. I wonder how they heard about him, but I’m not complaining! It’s all about word of mouth.
