Publix Trip – 89% Savings!

I had high hopes to spend only $2 total between my two Publix runs this week. But, when I got to my store for my first trip, I discovered it didn’t carry the Libby’s single-serve fruit cups that  I needed to add almost $5 to my pre-coupon total while only requiring me to spend $0.79 OOP for four 4-packs.

So, I had to change my plans. It’s all about rolling with the punches when you coupon. Things don’t always go as you plan and you sometimes have to make adjustments on the fly. I also had to get a 20 oz. bottle of Coke because I was getting really light-headed from low blood sugar, and SOMEONE (I won’t name any names) requested a Beech Nut applesauce pouch in the Tigger package. I’m glad those suckers  are only $0.99!

On my second trip, I had planned to double up on everything I bought but only was able to get one set of coupons, so that threw me off. I would have gotten everything for free, but I added on a bottle of Juicy Juice, some chili seasoning and a couple more applesauce pouches for the munchkin. But, really, I can’t be upset when I only spent $2.76 OOP.

All that being said, I spent $15.25 for $132.76 worth of groceries this week so, while it wasn’t as good as the $2 total I was aiming for, I’m pretty thrilled. I got the mayo and condensed soup for my parents (and spent a grand total of $1 on all of that), and the butter and sour cream I will donate as we have TONS of butter and don’t eat sour cream.

Weekly Totals 02/03

Wow. I am still amazed by last week’s shopping trip. I wanted to get a great scenario to hit $100 before coupons so I could get the $10 Publix gift card. I had a ton of free product coupons, and I had two rain checks from the previous week, so I was hoping those items were back in stock as it would give me $20 toward my total and I’d get them all for free. Unfortunately, only the tuna was back in stock. That leaves my 10 free boxes of popcorn for another trip.

So, for $150 in groceries before sales and coupons, my total was $37. BUT, I had a $25 Publix gift card, so I only paid $12 OOP for 92 percent savings! AND, I got my $10 gift card to use on my next trip.

Here’s my haul:
(4) bags of frozen veggies (free plus overage)
(2) packages of Carefree pantyliners ($0.14 total)
(1) Santitas tortilla chips ($2)
(1) Pillsbury cinnamon rolls (free product coupon)
(1) Aleve ($3 coupons = $1.99)
(1) Hamburger buns ($0.99)
(1) Bread ($1.89)
(2) Kikkoman soy sauce (2-$1 coupon = $0.78 total)
(1) Barilla whole grain spaghetti ($1/2 = $0.23 total)
(4) Pop Secret popcorn (free product coupons)
(2) 1.25 L Cokes (B1G1 = $0.99 total)
(2) Lloyds BBQ tubs (2-$1/1 = $3.99 total)

(1) Cherry 7Up 12-pack (free product coupon)

I’m psyched about all the lunch items I got for Joe, plus the free soda. Here’s hoping I don’t spend anything through Thursday so I can stick my leftover grocery money back in the bank!

Couponing Update

Couponing has been going really well for me, and I’m finally starting to be able to put portions of my grocery money every pay period away to be used for a credit card payment. It’s taken a while (probably because I was one of those who got caught up in it and bought everything at the beginning), but now I’m seeing some results.

I’ve been really bad at updating my spreadsheets every week, but last week, I spent $22 for around $107 worth of groceries. Not too bad!

I love shopping at Publix, but lately I’ve been thinking about learning to coupon at other stores. I HATE our local Kroger (it always has the feel like someone’s been murdered there), but a local woman on TLC’s Extreme Couponing bought $1,313 worth of items there and got paid $0.31 after all was said and done. I’d love to learn how to save like that at Kroger.

Another option is Wal-Mart, which is another store I really try to avoid. They do price match now, which could probably help the savings add up, but without coupons for walmart to stack with manufacturers coupons, I don’t think I’d save as much.

Hopefully, I’ll get back to doing my spreadsheets this week. It’s really good for me to be able to see what I’m spending and where it’s all going.

Weekly Totals — 02/25/11

I’m a little late posting this, but I think it’s still worth posting because last week was a great week! I spent $17.34 for $162.96 worth of groceries, which is a savings of 90 percent! You can see my full spreadsheet here.

Weekly Totals — 02/11/11

This was another pretty great week. I went a little bit over my goal of $40 a week, but I stocked up on about six months worth of cat food, plus more Morningstar products (rain check!) and lunch items, so I feel like it was a good week. I made two trips on Wednesday because the penny item was Publix 2-liter soda. Since my husband and I LOVE the Publix grape soda, I went twice with two penny coupons. One of the managers bagged my groceries during my second trip and seemed impressed with my savings. And, I got $20 in Publix gift cards this week! I have one more coupon for a $10 gift card that I will use next week. Those will be nice to have for the future.

This week, I spent $54.89 and got $236.57 worth of items for a savings of 77%. If you want to see a more detailed list of what I got, click here.

I’m really hoping that I can get to my goal of $40 a week soon. Hopefully after I’m done stocking us up on some of our essentials that will be easier to do.
