Eight Months

Dear Lucy,
I was thinking the other day how in just four short months we will be celebrating your first birthday. I still can’t believe how fast it’s coming up, and I don’t know where the time has gone.

You have changed SO much in just a month. You stand all.the.time. now. No matter where we put you, we know you’ll pull yourself up to your feet in a matter of minutes. And, you are a crawling machine! You are SO fast, and you just take off. You keep us on our toes!

Also at 8 months, you had your first swimming lessons! You LOVED it. You are defintely going to be a little fish. In fact, you already are. You amazed your teacher with your kicking, and when I dunked during the first class, you didn’t mind at all.

You said your first word this month — Dada! You also say “Baba”. I’m really working hard with you to say “Mama”. I know it will come soon, seeing as how I’m your favorite parent and all. 🙂 And, you have TWO teeth! You’re not too happy about this. I know they’re pretty painful, but it’s so cute seeing two little toofers in your mouth when you smile.

We had a lot of fun this month. We’ve been doing a lot more with our play group, which you love. You also experienced your first “Night at the Museum” at Tellus. You had a blast!

Other stats at 8 months:

  • You wear 6 month and 6-9 month clothing. You mainly wear 6-9 month in onesies. You’re still in 6 month shirts, pants and dresses.
  • We think you weigh somewhere between 16 and 17 pounds. I’m so excited to find out your actual weight in a few months.
  • You’re not a big fan of juice. We were told we could start giving you a little bit, but you don’t care for it yet. Maybe we’ll try another flavor.
  • You are starting to like Gerber puffs more and more. You still make faces when you eat them, but you keep opening your mouth for more.
  • We love you more than we can ever say. You are just so much fun and such a joy (yes, even with your teething!). I cannot imagine our lives without you.

Who has two thumbs and is getting her first tooth? This girl:

When I was feeding Lucy last night, I noticed she was chomping down on the spoon and holding it in her mouth. I ran my finger along her bottom gum, and there it was, the sharp top of a tooth! It hasn’t completely broken through yet, but it’s starting to. I’m so excited about this new development, yet I’m getting a little sad because she’s growing up so fast!

    Six Months

    Dear Lucy,
I cannot believe you are half a year old. We celebrated your half birthday with half a cake!

You REALLY wanted some, but Mommy and Daddy wouldn’t let you have any!

You didn’t really like the fact that we ate a slice in front of you, so we let you have a little taste of frosting. You didn’t really know what to think about it!

At six months old, you are sitting by yourself pretty well. You topple over eventually, but you can sit on the floor or on my lap without anyone holding onto you for quite a while.

You roll like crazy. It’s your only mode of movement right now, and boy do you use it to move! You roll all over the living room and your crib. Speaking of rolling in your crib, Daddy and I always laugh at how you wake up on the opposite end from where we put you down. We joke that while you’re not yet crawling, you MUST be crawling at night!

You are a tummy sleeper. We lay you down on your back, and you instantly roll over onto your stomach. I don’t know how it can be comfortable, but you still sleep 10-12 hours a night.

Crawling is an area of frustration for you as you are DYING to be mobile. You try SO hard to crawl, but you just can’t do it yet. It makes you very angry, and you cry. But, you will get there soon, and I’m sure it will be sooner than we imagine.

You love to play. You still LOVE your exersaucer, dodo bird and elephant, but you also love your new musical toys we bought you. We always joke that those toys are going to accidentally get lost one day because the songs are so annoying! But, you love them, and that’s all that matters. You have a new favorite toy this month — a rocking chick that jingles that was your uncles’ toy when they were babies. You can’t get enough of it!

And the big news — you are now eating solids! You LOVE to eat (you must get that from your Momma), and you have loved everything we’ve given you. You didn’t seem to like rice cereal, but we wonder if it’s because it was your first taste of eating off a spoon. We’re going to try it again and see if your taste for it changes. You really love fruits, though. We’ve given you apples and bananas so far, and I can’t wait to try even more with you.

    Some of your six-month stats:

  • You weighed 14 lbs, 12 oz at your six-month appointment, but when we took you in last Friday, you had gone up to 15 lbs, 6 oz!
  • You wear some 6 month clothes but still wear quite a few 3 month and 3-6 month outfits.
  • You wear size 3 diapers.
  • I cannot believe my little girl is half a year old. As much as I’m looking forward to planning your first birthday party, I wish you would slow down just a little bit! I’m just glad you’re still so snuggly. I hope that continues for a long, long time. Your my best little girl friend, and I love you more than you will ever know.

    Beginning Mobility

Who has two (tiny) thumbs and rolled over this morning?

    This girl:

Yes, Lucy rolled over this morning for the first time! I was folding laundry as she was doing her regular morning tummy time and looked up when I heard a thump to see her laying on her back with a confused look on her face as if she was wondering why she was no longer on her tummy.

I called Joe, who was in the other room and missed it as well, and we put Lucy back on her tummy to see if she would do it again. She didn’t. That’s OK, though. This is just the beginning!
