2007 in review

2007 was full of a lot of fun and exciting things as well as some sad moments, and i thought i’d recap the year.

january
cal ripken, jr. was elected to the baseball hall of fame, and joe and i started planning our trip to cooperstown. cal ripken has been my favorite baseball player since i was a child. i followed him every year at memorial stadium and then camden yards, and it was only fitting to make sure i saw the end of his career at cooperstown.

february
joe and i celebrated our first valentine’s day as a married couple. it was low key, which is just the way i like it.

march
we put an offer in on our first house. the house hunting process was disappointing at first, but ended quite well when we found our house, the last one we saw on our first day out with our realtor. we just knew it was the one for us.

we also adopted our siamese kitten sasha, whom we found abandoned at our apartment complex. she made herself at home right away, running right into our bedroom, jumping on the bed and falling fast asleep.

april
we moved into our new house. the seller wanted to close quickly, and since he offered to pay our last month’s rent at our apartment, we were more than happy to move in. we had quite a way of introducing ourselves to the neighbors — the truck we borrowed from a friend caught on fire, and we had to borrow fire extinguishers and call the fire department. then, at our housewarming barbecue, joe, his dad and dave nearly caught the grill on fire!

may
i decided i wanted to go back to school and get my master’s degree. i still have to take the gre. i’ve just been so busy lately that i’ve put it on the back burner. and now with us trying to get pregnant, it may get pushed aside even more. but that’s ok. i can always go back to school.

june
a story i wrote about the arrest of a former georgia bureau of investigation agent won the georgia association of broadcaster’s gabby award for best news story for our market. we also got a new car because joe’s car literally died, and the same day had our little sasha put to sleep because she had feline leukemia. oh, and did i mention that i was so upset about sasha that when i went back to work i left my car running and locked it? that was a rough, rough day. there is nothing worse (so far) than putting a pet to sleep, and there’s not a day that goes by that we don’t think about her.

july
we headed to cooperstown for the baseball hall of fame induction. it was definitely the best vacation ever. there was so much energy, and it was just awesome to be able to see the ceremony. then, we headed to new york city to visit some of joe’s relatives and spend some time in the city, since i’d never been there before. and, we took in a yankees game while we were there. it was quite the baseball-themed trip.

august
we left hobby lobby one night to find a car on fire in the parking lot (what is it with cars catching on fire when joe’s around?). joe took control and moved other cars away while i went inside to try to find the owner. an off-duty firefighter asked a civilian to get inside the car and pop the hood (obviously he’s not a *good* firefighter since the fire was under the hood), and the civilian actually did it!

september
we celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary by spending a weekend at a hilton hotel in atlanta. it was a *very* nice hotel, and it was a nice and relaxing weekend, the perfect way to spend an anniversary.

my nephew, harrison, also was born after my sister-in-law was in labor for about 9 hours without any kind of pain killers. she has my utmost respect for that.

and, in september i got the chance to meet chas and her daughter. it was a lot of fun, and hopefully we’ll be able to meet up again sometime since she lives in the same area my parents do.

october
i did my first live remote, which was super fun. i don’t usually do things like that since i’m a news reporter/anchor, but i really enjoyed it and would like to do more events like that to get over my fear of speaking without a script.

i also judged a costume contest on halloween for one of our local cities. it was the first time i’d every done that (i was a celebrity judge), and it was a lot of fun.

november
i was in a car wreck. i was rear-ended while stopped to turn into the gas station. my car wasn’t damaged too badly, but i received a concussion and whiplash. i’m still seeing the chiropractor from that. i have 2-3 weeks left, i think.

december
my debit card number was stolen. there wasn’t a lot taken out of my account, thank goodness, but it was still a hassle to have to order a new card, change everything for my bills, etc.

we also celebrated hannukah and christmas with all of our families this year. last year, my dad was sick and wasn’t able to make it to joe’s parents for hannukah. this year he was able to come, and it was a lot of fun getting both of our families together.

i hope you have great memories of 2007 as well, and here’s to an even better 2008. happy new year everyone!

the weekend

our weekend didn’t really turn out as planned. we originally were going to go to taco mac today to watch the patriots/giants game, since it was the biggest game of the year with the patriots coming into it 15-0. last night, we checked the time and found out it was the saturday night game. it was a good thing we checked because we both would have been upset if we had missed it. i’m not a big football fan, but even i was into last night’s game. the score kept going back and forth, and it was close up until the end. the patriots came back from a 12 point defecit to win and go undefeated for the regular season. i’m interested to see if they can keep it up for the post season.

today, we were going to play tennis, but it rained all night. and, when we woke up, we both were sick. joe has had horrible sinus problems, i feel like i’m getting the flu, and neither of us slept well last night. so, our plans of doing things around the house and working out didn’t happen either. we spent the day napping and watching tv. sigh. at least i’ve been too sick to eat! i just hope we’re feeling better tomorrow so we don’t have to cancel our new year’s eve party!

tv on the brain

i know my husband watches “the office” too much when …

he keeps calling my sister pam because her husband’s name is jim.

joe keeps asking me what my sister’s name is because he associates the name jim with the name pam. her name is lisa. ha!

christmas lights

our neighbor has a peace sign in christmas lights on his house. that’s awesome. and it’s so funny because i’ve heard people mention the peace sign after they’ve driven by it. he’s a bit odd, but his peace sign is cool.

hair cut

i got my hair cut the friday before christmas. i’m talking a lot of hair. and no one except joe, my mom and my fil noticed. can’t you tell the difference?

christmas

we had such a great christmas. we headed up to my parents’ house friday morning, and my mom and i baked while my dad, joe and my brother watched a movie. i made a milk chocolate bundt cake with a chocolate glaze (i got the recipe from kelly). we also made an apple pie from scratch. they both turned out really well and were so good, even though my mom’s oven was a little too hot and the pie got a little burned on the top.

we gave my grandparents their presents at their home before heading over to ryan and ori’s for christmas eve dinner and presents. my grandpa recently broke his ankle and his shoulder, so it’s hard for him to get around now. my grandma is pretty tired from taking care of him, so it was easier for them to stay home. they were quite happy, though, with their books and chinese food. 🙂
