Progressing on Track

Lucy has started to drop! My doctor told me that today at my appointment. She hasn’t dropped much, but she has a bit nonetheless. She’s measuring right on track, and her heartbeat was strong at 150 bpm. It was yet another fantastic report.

I’m not looking forward to my next appointment. I get to have the lovely Strep B test, an iron test and a pelvic exam. Hoo-frickin-ray! I’m not super excited. But, on the bright side, this will be my only pelvic exam. My doctor said they only will do another one if I think I’ve gone into labor or I reach 40 weeks and the baby hasn’t arrived. I’m good with that.

And, after my next appointment I will start going in weekly. That makes me realize just how close we are!

33 Week Belly Shot

33 week belly shot 1

Sometimes I think I look too large for how far along I am and other times I think I look too small. Take this picture, for instance. I feel like I should look larger than I do at 33 weeks! Oh well. As long as my belly measures on track and my doctor isn’t worried then I guess I won’t be either.

Today, I’m actually wearing a pre-pregnancy shirt (with a camisole underneath so it’s not too short, of course!). I really wanted to wear a black shirt today, and I haven’t had time to go buy a maternity shirt. I don’t think it looks too bad. I just hope my belly doesn’t stretch it out too much!

Thanks for all the responses on the last post. I really didn’t want to buy special baby detergent, so I’m thinking Free and Clear is the way to go. It wouldn’t be bad for our clothes either.

Baby Questions

Here are a couple of questions for all you mommies:

1. Do/did you use baby laundry detergent? My mom said she never used it with us, and we’re just wondering if it’s really necessary to buy the special laundry detergent or if regular detergent is fine to use. We’ll ask our doctor, but I’m just curious as to what you all did.

2. Do you need an extra car seat base to put the car seat in a second car? I had heard somewhere that you can put the car seat in without the base, so I’m wondering what you all did.

It’s nice to know so many moms to ask my many questions!

Cat Scares

We thought we had two sick cats on our hands last night. It all started when Dizzy ate a whole tomato slice off the pizza we had ordered. Dizzy is dumb and eats or drinks pretty much anything, including beer. I didn’t really think too much about it, but Joe wanted to look it up online. What did we find? That tomatos in all forms are toxic for cats.

Insert freakout here. We called the vet’s after hours number, and the person who answered said that he would be fine, so that calmed us down a bit. Joe said she sounded like she got that question a lot.

Then, we gave the cats their flea treatments. I think Callie squirmed a bit while Joe was squirting it on her, and some of it dripped down her side. She must have licked some because all of a sudden she started tearing around the house shaking her face. It took forever to catch her, and when we did we saw that she was foaming at the mouth.

Insert second freakout here. We put her in the bathroom with some water and food, and eventually she calmed down seemed to be fine. We kept an eye on her, and today she is back to her normal self.

I’m glad they ended up being fine. And that we didn’t have to make a late night trip to the emergency vet!

33 Weeks

I know it’s late in the game, but I thought I’d do one of the weekly surveys I’ve seen on other blogs.

How far along: 33 Weeks
Total weight gain/loss: Up 14 pounds (but that does not include the weight I gained during the IVF cycle)
Maternity clothes: Definitely.
Sleep: Wish I could sleep as soundly as I used to.
Best moment this week: Realizing I rechnically have fewer than 7 weeks to go now!
Movement: Yes, but it’s not as noticable as it has been. Plus, with the placenta in front, it’s harder to feel her.
Food cravings: Carrots and ranch dressing — yum!
Gender: A little girl!
Labor Signs: Nope.
Belly Button in or out: Still in. 🙁
What I miss: My old size. 🙂
What I am looking forward to: My baby showers in a few weeks.
Weekly Wisdom: There is no such thing as bladder control anymore!
Milestones: Less than two months to go!

I feel like I wake up every day in awe of how far along I am. I can’t believe I technically have fewer than 7 weeks to go (6 weeks and 6 days!). I’m feeling *much* better health-wise, which is great. I’m not exactly back to 100 percent, but I’m better than I was.

I’m getting used to the pain, and have found how I need to sleep so my sciatic nerve doesn’t hurt. And at least now I feel like I can make it for the next 6 weeks, which is a breakthrough. I still get dizzy a lot, which I know is normal, but it just seems odd that it always seems to hit when I’m sitting down rather than when I stand up.

One thing that bums me out is that my belly button still hasn’t popped out. At this point, I’m wondering if it ever will. I hate that I still have that indentation rather than a perfectly round belly. Oh well. In the grand scheme of things, that’s pretty minor.

I’m getting *so* excited about Lucy’s impending arrival. I have a feeling she will be late. I know it’s early to say that, but it’s just my gut feeling. I hope I’m wrong!
