2009 in Review

Another year is coming to a close, and as I looked back I realized I didn’t *do* as much as in past years, but this year definitely was the most rewarding.

January
The museum where Joe works opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony, and we embarked on our first and only IVF cycle.

February
I started my meds for my IVF cycle.

We spent Valentine’s night at a gala at the Calhoun County Museum in St. Matthews, South Carolina, where we saw displays that included several of Joe’s relatives. It was fun learning more about his family.

March
We had our egg retrieval and embryo transfer, and settled in for the horrendous two week wait.

We found out we were PREGNANT! We got our positive HPT the day before my birthday and the blood test confirmation on my birthday. It was the best birthday present ever.

April
We saw our baby for the first time.

May
Joe ran his first marathon!

June
I was put on bed rest. Boo!

We found out that we were having a little GIRL!

We saw our little Smudge in 3D for the first time.

July
My family took our first full family vacation. It was so much fun to have all my siblings, niece and nephews together.

I felt Lucy kick for the first time!

August
We had our first trip to L&D when we noticed a decrease in Lucy’s movement. Luckily, everything turned out to be fine.

My sister-in-law had her baby shower.

We went to an Atlanta Braves game in style with tickets for the Sun Trust section. We’ll never be able to enjoy regular seats again!

September
I had my first baby shower, which was thrown by our Kiwanis Club.

We celebrated our third wedding anniversary.

I threw Joe a surprise birthday party for his upcoming 30th birthday!

We had our 3D ultrasound and really got a good look at what our little girl looked like.

Deadly floods hit the metro Atlanta area. My county was one of the few that was spared most of the damage and devastation.

Joe and Randy ran a 10k in which Joe won 2nd place for his age group and Randy won 1st for his…first out of one, that is!

Rachel had her baby girl, Rivka Rose, who ended up coming on her due date.

October
Joe turned 30!

Our coworkers threw our second baby shower.

I had my third baby shower, which was thrown by my mom in Chattanooga.

November
I had my fourth and fifth baby showers with my friends in Cartersville and my church family respectively.

Our baby girl, Lucy Jane, was born on Nov. 21.

We celebrated our first Thanksgiving as a family of three.

We had a couple of false alarms leading up to the time I finally went into labor.

December
Lucy turned one month old and had her first visit with Santa!

We celebrated our first Hanukkah and Christmas with Lucy.

2009 was definitely the best year yet, and I’m sure 2010 will be even better. Happy New Year, everyone!

The Holidays 2009

The holidays this year were so much fun now that we have little Lucy around. I thought back to last year when we were planning our IVF cycle, not knowing if we would be successful, and this year we have a 1 month old. It’s just amazing.

Our celebrations started earlier this month with Hanukkah at Joe’s parents’. Lucy was only 3 weeks old, so she slept through most of the evening, but it was fun having her there and opening her presents for her.

It was also Lucy’s first time meeting her cousin, Rivka, who is 7 weeks older. Neither girl was really into it, but the parents sure had fun!

And, since it was the girls’ first Hanukkah, Joe’s mom got them “My First Chanukah” bibs.

We spent Christmas with my family. It was only two weeks after Hanukkah, but Lucy was much more alert and awake, which made it so much fun. We bought an outfit just for Christmas Eve.

Isn’t that the cutest little reindeer you’ve ever seen?? She was such a good baby and sat on my lap as we all opened presents. She made out better than anyone! We debated awhile before deciding on what to get her, and finally purchased the Fischer Price Bounce and Spin Zebra. Since she’s not really old enough to play with anything yet, I wanted to get her something she could use next year. I hope she’ll like it!

One of our friends bought Lucy a “My First Christmas” sleeper, which I changed her into after we opened presents. I think she was getting annoyed with all the outfits!

On Christmas Day, Lucy showed off her Santa dress, which she was less-than-thrilled to wear. She didn’t last long in it!

We had such a nice holiday, and I’m now looking forward to next year and seeing Lucy with her cousins, Harrison and Marshall. It’s going to be so much fun!

The Tofurky and Gravy Soda Taste Test

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Jones Soda. All opinions are 100% mine.

Before Thanksgiving, I received a box from IZEA with a nifty turkey hat, which we had a lot of fun putting on Lucy for pictures, and a bottle of Tofurky and Gravy Jones Soda . I was pleasantly surprised to see a product sent out that is vegetarian-friendly, since they are few and far between. We saved it for Thanksgiving Day, which we thought would be the best time to break it out, and gave it a try.

It tasted just like you would think it would, which is not so good! It was very odd with a mishmash of flavors without one that really stood out. It had a bland taste and texture and really tasted like you would think the color brown would taste. My husband had to give it a try. He’s up for anything.

Neither of us were fans. Of course, I wouldn’t expect Tofurky and Gravy flavored soda to taste good, and it is not a product we are going to buy, but it was fun to try out. I might just buy some bottles to give as gag gifts to my brother and brother-in-law. It would be fun to watch them try it as well. 🙂

SocialSpark Disclosure Badge

I am really not looking forward to going back to work. I love being home with Lucy, and I know it’s going to be *really* hard for me to start leaving her.

I am really glad my company gives the option of purchasing additional life insurance. We get a certain amount for free, but for a nominal fee, we can purchase quite a bit more. I love that I don’t have to go out and find life insurance to purchase, like mortgage life insurance, and that I know that my family will be taken care of if something happens to me.

Merry Christmas!

Nothing says Merry Christmas like a baby in a stocking.
