Project Roof

We finally have a brand new roof and an intact ceiling. You may recall, our ceiling collapsed on us two weeks ago due to water damage from improper work done by the former owner of our house. The contractors were here all last week. It was crazy, threw off my daily schedule and was *very* noisy, but now we have a roof that should last 10-15 years, well past the amount of time we plan to live here.

Phone Shopping

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of LG Chocolate Touch. All opinions are 100% mine.

I cannot wait to get Joe a new phone. His current phone, the LG Vu, constantly messes up when he uses it. It either drops calls or I can’t hear him while we’re talking, which is always great because he comes home and tells me he hears everything I say out of exasperation! We’ve only had the phone for two years or so, and I don’t really understand why we’re having such problems already, but it’s a good excuse to start looking for a new one.

I like the LG Chocolate Touch. It includes the Internet, access to Social Media sites (which means Joe will have no excuse to not use Facebook more often!), has a camera and video camera (a video camera is one thing I wish my phone had), and has a music player. There’s a digital editor to edit pictures and videos taken with the phone (awesome!) and the music player would allow Joe to ditch his iPod when he runs so he doesn’t have to carry so many things with him.

We have a couple of months before his contract runs out to make a decision. I’m just ready for him to have a phone that will allow him to actually complete a conversation with me!

Birth Announcement

I toyed with the idea of not sending out a birth announcement for Lucy since it would go out at the same time as our holiday cards, but I decided I WANTED to send out a birth announcement for her. I wanted it for us and also for her baby book and scrapbook. However, I included them with our holiday cards to save on shipping. 🙂 Joe designed it and used the colors from her nursery, and I think it looks fabulous.

Weight Loss Motivation

I’ve been struggling with losing weight since having Lucy. Even though I haven’t been eating too badly, I haven’t been super motivated. Plus, I’ve been *so* tired, I just haven’t felt like exercising.

I’m hoping that’s about to change. Yesterday, I attended my first of 8 weight loss programs at work. It’s part of a wellness program that we all had the opportunity to participate in. For me, it was a no-brainer. It’s free, it’s during work hours and it’s time with a registered dietician. I’m hoping that this will work for me so I won’t have to rejoin Weight Watchers.

One thing I know I need to do is to start eating breakfast. I’m not a breakfast person. Even though I’m hungry in the mornings, I just don’t get around to it, especially with a 2-month-old to take care of. Today, I got up an hour or so earlier than normal and have had a leisurely morning while Lucy sleeps, including eating a pretty good breakfast.

Another thing I didn’t realize was that I should be eating something every few hours. The woman leading our class says that when our blood sugar stays level, our metabolism does as well. When you eat every few hours, your blood sugar spikes leading your metabolism to spike.

It’s going to be a long road. I have about 44 pounds to lose to get my BMI into the healthy range. According to the CDC, I’m obese. I never really thought I was that large, but I guess I am. My first goal is to be out of maternity clothes by the Atlanta Arthritis Foundation walk in May. I think I can do that.

I just wish I wasn’t so hungry all the time.

Baby Question

Whenever we put Lucy in her bouncer or on her back, she turns her head to the right. We try to move it either straight forward or to the left, and she turns it right back. Did any of your kids do this? I wonder if it’s something that’s normal or not. Any ideas?

Crumbling Ceiling

Our ceiling collapsed last Monday night. I was sitting on the couch getting ready to turn on “24” when I heard a crack. I saw the crack from the water damage we’ve had spread farther across and then the ceiling just collapsed. It barely missed hitting me. Luckily, Lucy was on the other side of the room and didn’t get hit either, though some dust did land on her.

The irony? The roofers were supposed to come out that Wednesday to start working on replacing the roof and chimney. Apparently, the previous owner of the house — who fixed it up and flipped it — used board on the chimney that isn’t supposed to get wet, which one would assume means it shouldn’t be used on the outside of a house. It’s something our inspector should have caught, but that’s a whole other story. So, water has been leaking in from there (and boy, have we had some *rainy* days in the last year), causing two cracks in our ceiling, one above our fireplace and the other by the window. We also had wind and hail damage to our roof, which is why the entire thing is being replaced.

Luckily, the roofers were able to come out the next day to clean up our living room and fix our ceiling. Yesterday, they replaced our entire roof, and today they’re rebuilding our chimney and beginning the cosmetic work on our ceiling. I can’t wait for all this to be over. This new roof better last until we buy a new house!
