I really want to get a doorbell installed for our front door. Doorbells make it so much easier to hear when someone is at the door, especially when I’m in the back room. It’s kind of hard to hear someone knocking when we’re back there. Plus, if people are like me, they tend to knock lightly rather than hard enough to be heard.

The Smudge Mug

I don’t think I ever shared what I gave Joe for Valentine’s day. It came in a little late, and I was *so* excited to give it to Joe that I had him meet me the afternoon it arrived. You see, the employees at Joe’s museum aren’t allowed to have drinks with open tops at their desks in case anything was to spill, so they all have to use travel mugs.

So, I had one of those custom mugs made. We call it the “Smudge mug”.

That’s the collage that wraps around the mug. I think it turned out so well! And what better way to show off a collection of pictures of Lucy??

Tummy Time Progress

Look who’s a lean, mean head lifting machine!

Now that we know about the torticollis and have been doing Lucy’s exercises, she’s really started lifting her head better. And, tummy time, while still not high up on her list of favorite things to do, doesn’t seem to be as torturous as in the past. Before, she would start wailing after 30 seconds on her belly. This morning, she was on her tummy for 20 minutes before she fell asleep. I’m so proud of her!

My First Sewing Project

I haven’t sewn anything since my high school Home Ec class.

Until yesterday, that is. I made Lucy a taggie blanket — with my mom’s help, of course. 🙂

It really was fairly simple to make. Cutting and sewing the material together was a breeze. The ribbons took a little more time to make sure they were lined up correctly. And, one of the textures I chose was thick so it was a little hard to run the needle over it.

I made an 8×8 taggie because I thought it would be easier for Lucy to handle. It turned out great!

And, it’s been a big hit. Lucy hasn’t put it down voluntarily since yesterday evening. I’ve had to pry it out of her hands at diaper changes and when I put her to bed last night. In fact, right now, she’s clutching it as she snoozes in her bouncer.

It makes me feel so good to see her playing with something that I made for her rather than something I just bought at a store.

The Flood

Today started off great. Lucy and I left the house around 11 a.m. to run some errands, and hit Target before going to Joann to buy fabric and ribbons for the taggie blanket I’m going to make this weekend.

Then, we stopped for lunch. Lucy was smiley and giggly all day and, though she didn’t fuss, I figured I’d be a good mom and go ahead and check her diaper, which I was sure needed to be changed.

I picked her up out of her car seat and thought it was odd that the back of her pants felt wet. Weird. When I got her into the bathroom and pulled off her pants, I realized they were soaked. So was her white onesie, although at that point it was turning into a brown onesie. And, her dress, which went OVER her pants, was wet.

Yes, it turns out my daughter had been sitting for who knows how long in the dirtiest diaper to date, and not only had she peed through THREE LAYERS OF CLOTHING, but she also soaked her car seat. Seriously. There was a freaking pool of pee in it. And she didn’t cry. At all. Really? THIS is the time she chooses to not cry??

And, of course, I had taken her extra outfit out of her diaper bag and forgotten to put it back in. *Hangs head in shame*

I thought about taking her out in just her diaper and wrapping her in a blanket, but I ended up just putting her dress back on (since it wasn’t as bad) and put her blanket over her since, you know, I didn’t want to be known as the mom who takes her baby out in chilly weather in a sleeveless dress.

I didn’t have time to go home and change her once we got back into town, so we stopped by Kohl’s to wash off her car seat, change her diaper again (since, you know, there was PEE on her car seat) and buy her a new outfit.

As we were making our way to the register, I said, “Well, at least you got a new outfit out of this.”

And she smirked at me. Yes, she SMIRKED.

I said, “You did all this on purpose, didn’t you??”

And she smiled. Yes, folks, this girl really is my daughter. She knows how to work the system. And, now I will always make sure she has a backup outfit when we leave the house.
