Outdoor Decor

This post brought to you by Pier 1. All opinions are 100% mine.

Spring is almost here, and that means it’s time to start thinking about spending more time outside. From watching Lucy play to cooking out, there’s so much to do, and I really love this time of year.

One thing we’ve never really done is focused on our outdoor decor. Maybe it’s because we don’t really have a backyard (it’s all wooded right now) and no where to put anything. I SO want to buy some outdoor chairs and a fire pit, but I wonder if that looks too redneck in our front yard. Pier 1 is probably my favorite store for outdoor decor. I love their wicker furniture. Throw on colorful cushions, and you have cute furniture with a pop! I love the papasan chairs (I have one in our bedroom but never knew you could buy outdoor cushions!), and the Swingasan chair they are selling this season is pretty cool.

I think this year we need to focus on getting our backyard cleared out so we can create a patio area. We’re probably going to be in this house several more years thanks to the downturn in the economy, so we might as well work on sprucing it up! It could really be a “wow” factor for our house if we get some cute rugs and seating, and maybe some torch lighting or something. I have a friend who has a patio area like that, and it’s so cute!

What kind of outdoor decor do you have at your house? Do you like Pier 1? If so, make sure you sign up for the Pier 1 Outdoor newsletter. You will get a special in-store offer that can be used March 18-20. And, if you live in Dallas, Atlanta or NYC, you can check out one of the Pier 1 Tweetups!

Pizza Party

I just realized I never blogged about our trip last month to see how pizza is made! We went to Big Pie in the Sky with our mom’s group, and it was a lot of fun.

They make HUGE pizzas there. The slices were SO big.

We got to help put cheese on one of the pizzas. Lucy didn’t want to touch it, so I put the cheese on for her.

Afterward, we got to eat. 🙂 The restaurant hadn’t opened yet, so we had the place to ourselves. Lucy and I hung out with her future husband, Grant, and his mommy.

A certain someone LOVES her some pizza!

That was one of the most fun field trips I’ve been on with the group. Hopefully, we’ll get to do something like that again soon.

Classes on Blogging

This post brought to you by Ashworth College. All opinions are 100% mine.

It’s pretty obvious that I love to blog. I love having a place where I can share fun tidbits of our lives and stories about Lucy, and a place where I can vent when I need to, LIke most bloggers, I taught myself everything I know, from inserting pictures and embedding video to learning enough HTML to be able to edit my templates myself. I love blogging, and I love that I can make a little bit of extra income from my blog. That money goes toward paying off our credit cards. Hopefully, we will be debt free in another couple of years.

Ashworth College now is offering an accredited Professional Blogging Career diploma, which can be obtained in just six months. I had never heard of a blogging diploma before. In the classes, students learn how to create publish, manage and promote blogs, vlogs, podcasts or webcasts. They also learn the latest blogging techniques from teachers with years of experience. It’s pretty cool that there are classes like that in which people can learn more about blogging and get more comfortable with how it all works. If they included classes on blog design, I probably would sign up. I really want to learn how to create my own blog themes. It would be fun to not only be able to create designs for my own blog but for other people as well.

What are some blogging techniques you want to learn?

Finding Good Formula Deals

This post brought to you by PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

During Lucy’s first year of life, she was given formula. Nursing didn’t work out for me (not that I was disappointed about it), and formula feeding was SO convenient because we could BOTH share in the feeding duties.

From the start, we bought Lucy store brand formula. The nutrition content is the same as in the name brand formulas, and I couldn’t justify spending more than twice the cost for the exact same product. I found that some brands mirrored Similac while others mirrored Enfamil. I was lucky in that Lucy didn’t care which brand we gave her. We switched back and forth, depending on what I had coupons for, and she was as happy as can be.

One formula I didn’t try was Bright Beginnings. I never saw it in stores, and I didn’t feel like ordering formula online, mainly because I always waited to buy moe until Lucy was out! However, you can get some good deals, especially if you buy on diapers.com. For instance, one can of Bright Beginnings costs about the same as other store brands, and you can get free 1-2 day shipping on orders over $40! You can also buy a 6-can pack, which is good for several months.

Show Us Your Life: Kids Parties

Today’s theme for Show Us Your Life is kids parties. For those of you who may be new, I will recap my daughter, Lucy’s first birthday party. Lucy’s BFF is Tigger, so it was a no-brainer to throw her a Tigger party. The upside? Not many people throw Tigger parties, so it was unique. The downside? Not many people throw Tigger parties, so it was hard to find items that didn’t include Pooh.

This was the invitation we sent out. Joe designed it, and I still love it. Since Lucy’s birthday fell on a Sunday, we were able to have her party on her actual birthday, which was fun!

lucybirthdayinvite for blog

We had the party at my former church. The fellowship hall was the perfect location. My birthday girl wore the “Tigger tutu” I made her.

These were the centerpieces I made. I thought they turned out pretty well!

We had balloons in Tigger’s colors, and I ordered a banner with Lucy’s name off Etsy. In retrospect, I would have ordered one that said “Happy Birthday” as well so the two banners would match, but oh well.

I had a table set up by the door where I displayed two pictures of Lucy — one from the day she was born and a recent picture — and had a signature mat for everyone to sign. I also had a coloring table set up for the bigger kids.

And, of course, there was cake! A coworker made THREE cakes for my sweet girl — a Tigger cake, which was the main event; two smash cakes; and an extra cake. We were expecting many more people than actually came, but a lot had to cancel the day of the party.

I had so much fun planning Lucy’s first birthday party, and I already have ideas rolling around for the big “2”!

This post brought to you by Express. All opinions are 100% mine.

Swimsuit season is approaching, and since we plan on enrolling Lucy in swimming lessons again this summer, this means I need to find a new bathing suit. Last year, I wore my maternity suit because I hadn’t lost any weight. Currently, I am down 12 pounds, and I hope to be down even more by July, which is usually when we take Lucy for her lessons.

Even though I can’t wear two piece swimwear, one of the downsides to not having a flat stomach, I do like the women’s swimwear at Expressthis year. The bikinis are super cute with their bright colors and fun graphics (and give me the motivation to try to get a flat stomach), and there are a few one pieces. I really like  tankini swim suits. That’s my favorite kind of suit because it’s not a one piece but it’s not a bikini either.

The swimwear at Express have removable padding in the tops, and the bottoms fit smaller to size for moderate back coverage. That’s good to know when ordering since I’m used to bottoms fitting closer to size.

Make sure you sign up for Express e-mail for a chance to win one of 10 $200 Express gift cards! You can check out the sweepstakes rules here.

So, what’s your favorite kind of swimsuit?
