One thing I love about big cities are all the big steel buildings. I love driving into a city and seeing the skyline from the distance, growing closer as we approach. I think my favorite skyline is the one in Baltimore. Maybe I’m biased, but all the office buildings, the two sports stadiums and the Inner Harbor make for a pretty awesome downtown area.

Farmers Market Basket #1

I am finally back! Whew. I thought I had avoided the stomach bug that hit Joe and Lucy, but it was determined not to let me get away. Thankfully, it waited until after my grandpa’s memorial service (I’ll have to share some pictures from our weekend with my whole family later).

This week, I got my first Farmers Market Basket. Actually, I got it the day before I got sick. So, I haven’t had a chance to use much of it yet, though Lucy has gone through almost all the bananas! I think these regular baskets will last me two weeks, so my plan is to get two a month for now.

I know you all want to see the goodies. Right?? Here they are:

Farmers Market Basket 04/17/12

I seriously could not be more excited. Here’s a breakdown of what I got:

  • 1 bunch of lettuce
  • 1 bunch of spinach
  • 1 bunch of cilantro
  • 1 bag of apples
  • 1 bunch of bananas
  • 1 bag of green beans
  • 1 cantaloupe
  • 4 oranges
  • 4 kiwi
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 poblano pepper
  • 8 red potatoes
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • I actually swapped out two limes for two extra red potatoes, and now I’m wishing I hadn’t. I didn’t realize I needed that to make salsa! Oh well. I’ll pick up either a lime or some lime juice from the store.

So, what am I planning to do with my haul? I think I’m going to make up a salad tonight using the lettuce, spinach, half the onion and the cucumber. This weekend, I hope to use the tomatoes, extra onion and pepper to make salsa (never done this before, and I’m excited about it) and guacamole. We LOVE snacking on chips with salsa and guacamole. I’m also probably going to cut up the cantaloupe tonight.

The red potatoes will be used either for lunches or dinners, as will the green beans, and the fruit (aside from the bananas Lucy pigged out on) will be good for snacks.

I’m anxious to see what my next basket will hold!

I love watches. I just got one that I wear all the time (I usually buy them but don’t end up wearing them), and I think I’d like to get one of the Luminox watches. It would be nice to have one that I can wear when I take Lucy to the pool or we go to the beach or something. It’s handy to always be able to know the time!

    VeggieTales Live!

At the end of last month, we surprised Lucy with tickets to VeggieTales Live! It was a last minute deal because we didn’t find out a show near us had opened up until a week before. Lucy was BEYOND excited when she realized where we were going. She loves VeggieTales, and I knew she was going to have a blast.

When we arrived, we got Lucy a shirt and a hat. She made a cute Bob. 🙂

We got there about an hour and a half or so before the doors opened — so about two and a half hours before the show started — and we were pretty close to the front of the line. We had VIP ticket and, while we were guaranteed closer seats than general admission, we wanted front row seats. I wanted this to be the best experience possible for Lucy.

When the doors opened, we headed in. We couldn’t rush like we wanted to because people in front of us were meandering down the aisle. We snagged the last three seats in the front row and were ecstatic. Then, we realized we had an hour to wait before the show started and weren’t really sure what to do with Lucy. Not to fear, though — Lucy danced the ENTIRE hour. Well, she went back and forth between dancing and climbing on the step in front of the stage. She had a blast.

This is her before the show started. Yeah. I know. The energy.

I wish I had gotten video of Lucy’s squeal when she saw the veggies come out on stage for the first time. It seriously made me tear up. She was SO happy. But, I didn’t think about videotaping her until the opening song was almost done. However, you can still see how excited she is.

You would think that Lucy would get tired at some point since, you know, she danced the entire time we waited for the show to start. You would be wrong. That girl did not stop. She was the only one dancing during the first half. At intermission, one of the church members who was helping with the show approached me and said, “You have a dancer, don’t you?” Why yes, yes I do.

During the second half of the show, other kids got up and danced.

    And, there were BUBBLES!

After the show, we got to meet Bob and Larry. But, as Joe and I both said, they obviously weren’t the REAL Bob and Larry because they had arms. And legs. And everyone knows that VeggieTales don’t have either.

We had a great time, and I can’t wait to take Lucy back next time!

    Decorating Help

This post brought to you by Leviton. All opinions are 100% mine.

Renu® > Brands > Solutions from Leviton Web Site” />I am horrible at interior decorating. Or decorating at all for that matter. I have friends whose homes look like they could be on the pages of a magazine, and I wish I could make my house look that nice and homey.</p>
<p>
I just don’t have that gene and need some serious help. That’s where Leviton’s newest product, <a href=Renu, comes in. I really want to work on our living room. Once we actually move our china cabinet to our storage unit and our TV over to where our china cabinet is, I think we can really start working. I want to get new curtains, hang a collage of frames on one wall and some canvas prints on another. And, I would love to redo our wall plates and switches, maybe by putting in some dimmers or something like that.

This is a picture of our living room taken when we first moved in. We’ve since gotten a new couch, which is against the window, and gotten rid of the coffee table.

I would love to add a switch or wall plate that’s not quite white but maybe more of a creamish color. I wonder how that would look against our walls when we paint them. It’s available in 20 paint colors, so there’s something to go with every color scheme.

Renu is hosting three Twitter parties — on April 18, April 26 and May 2 — and you can participate by following @Leviton and #Renu. There also will be some Home Depot gift cards up for grabs! And, make sure you “like” Leviton on Facebook!

    A New Challenge

As many of you know, I quit my full-time job last year to work part time as a freelance writer and spend more time at home. It went very well for a few months. Then, the budget cuts happened, and that meant my assignments were cut. A lot. To the point where I was super stressed and didn’t know if we’d make it.

But, things are OK. We continue to bring in what we need every month, and we even paid off Joe’s car last week and will pay off one credit card this week. And, having less work means more time with Lucy. But, I still want to bring in more, to both feel more stable and to meet my aggressive plan to have the rest of our credit cards paid off in the next two years.

So, I’ve started my own business. It all began when I was approached by a local travel association to manage their social media accounts, and create and send out their monthly e-blast. Then, I got to thinking about how much I love Facebook and why not try to make some money while doing what I love. And, that’s how Cady Schulman Creative was born. I know, not exactly the most creative name, but I kind of suck at names. If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears.

Right now, I just have the one client, but I have meetings this week with two more potential clients. Fingers crossed they’ll sign on. And, a friend who referred one of the people I’m meeting with said she has other business owners to refer, and she likely will sign on herself. I feel like this is something that can really take off because, well, advertising and marketing your business on Facebook is MUCH cheaper than buying ad space in magazines or newspapers, on websites or billboards and, since there are 500 million people on Facebook, you’ll reach more people. There are just so many possibilities, and I’m super excited.

So, wish me luck! And, go over and “like” my Facebook page. 🙂
