Exhaustion

I was supposed to go to our Kiwanis club meeting tonight.

Instead, I am on the couch in my pj’s eating a bowl of chili I made for our club’s potluck tonight. That’s how bad of a day it’s been.

It all started this morning when I asked Lucy to put her shoes on. She’s 3. She can put them on herself. She just doesn’t want to. And, that’s when my day of back-to-back-to-back temper tantrums began. Because, you know, I am the meanest mom EVER.

And, so, my little drama queen spent about 45 minutes under my bed crying her little eyes out. She wouldn’t talk to me or come out but would scream at me when she would hear my show on TV. Yeah. She was a joy to be around.

Then, there was the meltdown at Kroger because she didn’t want to sit in the cart. The CAR cart. The car cart that I got because she won’t ride in anything else even though I can’t navigate it to save my life. I’m sorry, but my little munchkin is slow, and I was in a hurry, so riding in the cart was her only option.

And, then…THEN, she woke up in a crappy mood from her nap. She didn’t want to get out of bed. She didn’t want to get dressed. But, she DID want to go to Kiwanis. U-G-H.

So, here I am. Enjoying the quiet, watching the news and hoping my splitting headache goes away soon.

Menu Plan Monday ~ 02/18/13

MPM-Winter1

One of the things I enjoy about posting recipes to a blog I write for is that it forces me to try new recipes. And, that’s what I’ll be doing this week with the Zucchini-Corn Cannelloni recipe I found in my newest issue of Vegetarian Times. Hopefully, it will go into our rotation fairly often!

Here’s what I have planned this week:

Monday: Kiwanis Potluck

Tuesday: Zucchini-Corn Cannelloni served with rolls

Wednesday: Sloppy Joe’s served with veggies

Thursday: Dinner out for Yo Gabba Gabba Live!

Friday: Dinner at my parents’

Saturday: Dinner at my parents’

Weekly Totals ~ 02/16

Wow – this is the first time in a while that I really haven’t shopped at all. There wasn’t much I needed (besides a jar of jalapenos and a can of black beans for my meal on Friday while the hubby enjoyed my Mexican Chicken), so on Thursday night, I ran by Ingles to grab those, an ear of corn and some seasoning for guacamole. But, my guac turned out SO well by itself that I didn’t even use the seasoning! Maybe another time…

My total actually should have been lower than it was. I didn’t look at my receipt until now, and the cashier rang up my ear of corn as a lime. The corn was priced at 5/$2 and the limes at 2/$1, so I should have paid $0.40 rather than $0.50. Oh well. I’m not going to quibble over $0.10.

Also, I will be posting my recipes for Mexican Chicken and Roasted Corn Guac in the next week or so!

So, here are my puny totals for this week:

Laura Lynn Jalapenos – $1.58
Bush’s Black Beans – $0.80
Guacamole Seasoning – $0.98
Ear of Corn – $0.50

This week, I spent $3.86! I hope to have a good bit of my grocery money left over when the next pay day rolls around!

Simple Valentine’s Craft

We are going to visit Joe’s grandma (who recently moved to Atlanta) tonight. She hasn’t been doing well lately, so we’re hoping a visit from us will help cheer her up.

Well, that and this super adorable Valentine Lucy and I made for her today.

IMAG1746

Seriously. How cute is that?? And, it took no more than 10 minutes to make! I put her hands on a piece of red cardstock and used her thumbs and first fingers to form a heart. Makeshift heart. Then, I traced her hands, cut it out and taped it to a piece of pink cardstock! In the heart area, I wrote, “I love you.”

That’s it! Easy peasy. And so stinking cute. I think we’re going to have to make these for the grandparents, too! Like this craft? Use the button below the post to PIN IT!

Week in Phone Pics ~ 6/52

We had another fun week last week with a trip to the park and a couple of trips to Daddy’s work (the local science museum).

Last week we:

  • went to Daddy’s work with friends (and got soaked gem panning!);
  • was twinsies with Tigger;
  • had fun at Family Science Night at Daddy’s work (and got creeped out by Daddy’s fake mustache);
  • snuggled at church;
  • rode our tricycle;
  • had fun at the park as a family;
  • threw rocks into the creek;
  • built with blocks (while listening to 90s music!);
  • and took a magic carpet ride.
