Opening for the Masses

Joe’s museum is officially open. Several groups of people arrived about 30 minutes before the museum officially opened on Monday morning, which was really exciting to see. In its first day, approximately 200 people went though and close to 30 memberships were sold. Both are fairly good numbers considering it opened on a Monday and school is in session. I’m going to be really interested to see how the first weekend goes.

I was really excited to be there for the ribbon cutting and official opening, and I know Joe was glad I was there as well. Everyone from my station was there, which was neat, and the astronomy program manager’s wife surprised him by getting the morning off work and showing up. Like she said, it’s not every day your husband opens a museum.

We talked to some of the guests on opening day, and they all loved it. Next week, the school groups start, and there are more than 16,000 kids signed up for school tours. I just can’t wait to see what the first week totals are.

How exciting! I’m very curious as to what your husband does exactly, for the museum, it sounds interesting. I’ve always thought it would be fun to work at a museum, especially constructing the displays and working with kids. I was going to look for jobs and apply after I graduated, but there was a hiring freeze at the museums at the time, then I got this job and just never looked again. Too bad the next city we’re moving to doesn’t really have the type of museum I’m interested in.

I’m involved in volunteering at a local museum which houses a great deal of my own family history. I know it’s a lot of work!!

Best of luck to your husband ๐Ÿ™‚ and all involved.

That’s really cool! Congratulations! I wish him the best of luck. That’s a great picture of your hubby. BTW ~ I’m envious that you can get the custom anti spam thing to work. I have no idea how to get a different font for the words … and the images aren’t showing up! ๐Ÿ™

jenn – he’s the director of marketing, which has been both important and relatively easy. it was his job to get the word out there and draw people in, but there’s so much to do when it’s a new museum that it makes it a lot easier.
