Your Only Competition is Yourself

Last weekend was crazy busy. We were hardly home at all, which is not much fun for a pregnant woman! On Saturday morning, we had the Kiddie Day Parade, an event our Kiwanis Club puts on every year for the kids in the community. I’ve headed the event for the the last three years, and it’s always a lot of fun. The rain was threatening all morning, and we thought we were going to get the parade in before it started to pour, but as soon as the kids started marching the clouds opened up. Oh well. They all finished the parade route and had a blast, and we really had a great turnout considering the weather.

That night, we headed up to my parents’ because Joe and my brother, Randy, had plans to run a 10k race the next morning. We watched a movie, tried to get some sleep and were up around 5:30 a.m. to get ready and head out. It was a great race with a pretty flat course. Joe beat his personal record, which was awesome, and came in second in his age group!

Randy finished about 20 minutes after Joe. In fact, Joe said he passed Randy on his way back to the finish line. 🙂 While the awards were being handed out, Randy fell asleep at the table my parents and I had snagged while Joe and I waited for his trophy.

That was, until they got to the male 20-24 age group and called out Randy’s name as the first place finisher. My dad had to go wake him up, and it took him a few minutes to get oriented and to realize what was going on. After claiming his prize, he checked the score sheets to see how many people he had beaten out.

He was 1/1. Yes, my brother took home the huge trophy after being the only person in his age group! The funny thing is that when they announced his name, my dad said, “I bet he was the only one.” Haha.

And, of course, I had to get a shot of the boys with their trophies. I think Joe was a little bummed. 🙂

After the race, we headed back to my parents’ where Joe showered quickly and we headed off to meet his family in Atlanta for lunch. We were a little late, thanks to a LOT of rain along the way, but no one really minded, and surprisingly, there was no wait for a 12:30 p.m. lunch. It was fun, and it was the last time we’d all get together before a baby joins the family. Of course, Joe had to take a picture of the two pregnant women.

And then it was off to our 3D ultrasound. Whew. What a day. I’m getting tired again just recapping it. We were quite happy to return home and collapse for the night. I’m looking forward to our next free weekend. We might not have one until Lucy arrives, but we’ll sure enjoy it once it gets here.
