Officially En Pointe!
My daughter, Lucy, has been taking dance lessons since she was 5. She is 10 now, and she has finally reached the goal that every ballerina has – she is officially en pointe.
Going for her pointe shoe fitting definitely was different than I’m sure it has been in the past. I hated that we had to wear masks so I couldn’t capture the big smile I know she had when she tried the shoes on.
I had no idea what buying pointe shoes would entail. With regular ballet shoes, you just find your size, and you’re good to go. For pointe shoes, all the brands fit differently, so Lucy had to try on a bunch of different kinds before she found the ones she thought she liked – because, really, she had no idea what she was supposed to be looking for and feeling!
It was so fun watching her try on the shoes and stand en pointe to see how they fit and felt. And, what a difference a few hours made. She couldn’t stand in them on her own at the store, but by that evening at home, she could turn around in them.
Lucy’s teacher says she should be fully en pointe by the end of the year. It’s so exciting, and I can’t wait to see where she goes from here!
