200-220 is a good thread count, 230-280 is better, and 300-400 is best. Higher thread count sheets are usually more expensive and not necessarily a better sheet. I bought 300 thread count sheets, and they are so soft. I have felt 600 thread count sheets, and I honestly could not tell the difference between them and my modest 300 count, except for the fact that my friend paid twice as much for hers! Also beware of the blend. Cotton/Polyester blends may not wrinkle as bad, but they tend not to be as soft as 100% cotton. My sheets are actually a blend of 60% cotton and 40% bamboo, and they were inexpensive. You can get them at Target!

Happy shopping!
I agree–you really will feel the difference if you go to 300 or 400, but anything over that is just ridiculous!
Even Target has sheets in the 300 range these days, so they aren’t ridiculously expensive anymore.
I usually buy my sheets at JC Penney, and even their 200 thread count are nice. I don’t know about “feeling” the difference, but cheap sheets will stay stiffer and form little balls when you wash them.
My favorite sheets are from JC Penney. They are 400 TC and were only $50 for my queen bed. On the other hand, I just bought a set of 420 TC (sateen) Nautica sheets that were more expensive – and they are such a letdown. They felt super soft in the package, but after I washed them, they got rough! So, stay away from Nautica. I wouldn’t go any lower than 300-400, but that’s just my preference. I say spend more for a comfy night’s sleep. 🙂
Hmmm… I’d never heard about bamboo sheets until now. Here are some at Bed, Bath and Beyond that are 100% bamboo: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=13703850
Must. Feel. Bamboo. Sheets. 🙂
I think my current sheets are something like 250 from Domestications.
Yipes! First of all…so excited for this house thing. The pictures were very cute. Congratulations!
Secondly, I’m a flannel sheet type of girl. Even in summer.
I’d also go with at least a 300 thread count. Egyptian cotton seems good…I don’t know what is exactly Egyptian about it, but they’re nice and smooth. You can get sheets so cheap now, there’s really no excuse for not getting at least 300 count.
I don’ t know where my comment went.. so I’m putting it up again.
I’m confused as to everyone who said that 300 counts are good. I don’t buy anything less then 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton. The higher the thread count the softer and better the sheet!
