Joe’s museum is officially open. Several groups of people arrived about 30 minutes before the museum officially opened on Monday morning, which was really exciting to see. In its first day, approximately 200 people went though and close to 30 memberships were sold. Both are fairly good numbers considering it opened on a Monday and school is in session. I’m going to be really interested to see how the first weekend goes.
I was really excited to be there for the ribbon cutting and official opening, and I know Joe was glad I was there as well. Everyone from my station was there, which was neat, and the astronomy program manager’s wife surprised him by getting the morning off work and showing up. Like she said, it’s not every day your husband opens a museum.

We talked to some of the guests on opening day, and they all loved it. Next week, the school groups start, and there are more than 16,000 kids signed up for school tours. I just can’t wait to see what the first week totals are.

How very exciting to be a part of something so meaningful! Congratulations…. keep us posted on how the children react to it all.
How exciting! I’m very curious as to what your husband does exactly, for the museum, it sounds interesting. I’ve always thought it would be fun to work at a museum, especially constructing the displays and working with kids. I was going to look for jobs and apply after I graduated, but there was a hiring freeze at the museums at the time, then I got this job and just never looked again. Too bad the next city we’re moving to doesn’t really have the type of museum I’m interested in.
I can feel your excitement and am happy to see that you managed to achieve something that meaningful, not just for your life but also for so many visitors who will be able to enjoy the exhibits. Congratulations!! 🙂
The numbers sound very encouraging!
I’m involved in volunteering at a local museum which houses a great deal of my own family history. I know it’s a lot of work!!
Best of luck to your husband 🙂 and all involved.
That’s really cool! Congratulations! I wish him the best of luck. That’s a great picture of your hubby. BTW ~ I’m envious that you can get the custom anti spam thing to work. I have no idea how to get a different font for the words … and the images aren’t showing up! 🙁
Congratulations! How exciting to open an educational resource especially in the midst of doom and gloom! Gives people a reason to get outside themselves for a while!
How VERY cool, and congratulations. I can just tell how proud you are of him.
Yes! Julie is right..It shows how proud you are of him.. 🙂 Congratulations to your husband BTW…
Oh! How exciting.
janet – the kids *love* it. it is pretty neat to be involved with something from the beginning.
jenn – he’s the director of marketing, which has been both important and relatively easy. it was his job to get the word out there and draw people in, but there’s so much to do when it’s a new museum that it makes it a lot easier.
daria – we’re all super excited, and the museum had *such* a great first week.
heather – the numbers have been fantastic so far! i can’t wait to see how much they grow.
lisanne – i love that picture too, but joe doesn’t. i think he’s too critical of himself. 🙂
diane – i think it will be great, especially during the current economic times.
julie – i’m *really* proud of him!
bhing – i sure am! he’s done a fabulous job.
karen – it is! it’s so much fun to see the visitors and how much they’re enjoying it.
