victimized

someone has my debit card number. i logged into my bank account this morning, and noticed a transaction in my check card holds for a company i’ve never heard of. i called the bank and was told the purchase was made at 6:49 a.m. that’s funny because i didn’t wake up until after 8:30 a.m. i just don’t know how someone could have gotten my card number. it’s always in my wallet unless i’m using it, and my purse is never out of my sight when i’m out.

now, my card has been deactivate and it will take 7-10 business days to receive a new one, which is great since it’s almost christmas and we’ll be out and about visiting family. this is the time when i really *need* my card. plus, i have bills to pay that are set up to come off my old card. now, i have to set them up to come off joe’s card and then reset everything once i get my new card. what a hassle.

Oh my god, I am so sorry Cady. That sucks! I hope they refund all of your money, at least.

(At least it’s a good excuse to make Joe pay for dinner, right?)

Someone stole all my money once. Happened to a couple of my good friends too. Police have a word for it: marriage.

that stinks. i had my backup credit card (the one i never took out of my money belt) stolen in rome and i have no idea how. i didn’t even realize that it was gone until i returned home and was putting my wallet back together and couldn’t find it. sure enough, there were a couple of train tickets and a few dinners charged on it. it was a hassle, but in the whole scheme of things, a phone call and a fews days of waiting for a new card wasn’t too much effort to get my money back and a new secure card.

That’s too bad! Someone could have gotten the number anywhere you’ve used that card. Jason’s identity was stolen a few years ago, and we still have no idea how they got all of our information, including his social security number.

That sucks sweetie. I’m sorry it happened at all but especially more so because of the time of year. I hope they catch the person who used the number. It’ll be ok.

Cady, I’m sorry this happened to you. It happened to me a couple of years ago. They found the guy and banned him from Amazon, luckily Wachovia reimbursed all the money. I’m glad you caught it before it got out of control. *HUGS*

That sucks. Good thing you checked when you did. I’ve heard of this happening to people. So far I’ve avoided it. Scary world we live in.

A common way cards are stolen without taking the actual card is when you use it at say a fast food drive-up window. The thief will snap a photo of your card using their camera phone and they also take a pic of the security numbers on back.

Totally crappy to have this happen during the holidays!

sometimes your bankcard number is printed on the receipt that the place you used it at keeps, so anyone that works there had access to that information. it is supposed to be printed on your copy and not on the businesses but for some reason some places have it backwards, the pharmacy where i work for example is like that (although we got a new computer system while i’ve been on maternity leave, so probably not anymore). whenever you use your card just look at the receipt, if your number is printed on it you can scribble it out with a pen, there’s no reason why they would need it after your trasaction is complete.
