Weight Watchers: Week 1

Result: -2.4

I had a pretty good first week. Sure, I would have loved to have had the 5 pound losses that some people in my meeting group reported for their first weeks, but I’m pretty happy with a 2.4 pound loss. I did wear yoga pants today rather than work pants, but I don’t think that would have changed it too much.

I did manage to get all my water in this week, which is a huge victory for me. I’m not a big water drinker, and prior to joining WW, I would maybe drink a bottle a day. However, this past week I had only 2 diet sodas, and I didn’t even drink half of each. That’s been my weakness — every afternoon I make a Quiznos run for a Diet Mt. Dew, but this week I only did that once. Yay.

I struggled this week getting in my points. No matter how much I tried, I wasn’t able to get them all in, although I managed to get to around 1 point away. I just haven’t been hungry, and I felt like I was forcing myself to eat just to get my points in. Hopefully I’ll do better with that this week. I guess we’ll see how it goes next week since I’ll be wearing the same clothes to weigh in. On the bright side, I didn’t use any of my weekly points.

I started this week strong on the workout front. I had a great 30-minute interval session on the bike on Sunday, and on Monday I did aerobics. But, on Tuesday I had a lot of pain in my calf which just went away today, and I’ve been having more pain in my shins. I’ve had shin pain for a few months now but really didn’t think much about it until Joe started having it pretty bad. So, I’ve decided to go to the podiatrist. It’s probably either a shin splint or stress fracture, but at least I’ll know and he can tell me what shoes to buy for walking. I’ve noticed a lot of knee pain when we go for walks, and he can basically write a prescription for shoes. It’s awesome. That’s how Joe figured out what shoes to buy for running, and after he got those shoes he had no problem running. My appointment’s tomorrow. Hopefully the news won’t be too bad.

Congrats! 2.4 is awesome! The weight will come off w/WW, but it comes off slowly, which is best anyway. Maybe you’ll motivate me to do it again.

This is great! I’m glad you had such a good start.

Congrats! There are a lot of studies about how diet soda can cause weight gain or prevent weight loss. if you google it, you can see the details. But personally, I gave up diet coke (I was drinking at least one a day) – mostly because I didn’t like all the chemicals I was consuming, but also because I was curious of this theory. At the same time, I went from being rather restrictive on what I was eating to less restrictive (although still rather healthy) and I didn’t gain any weight when I felt like I should. Don’t know if it was connected to the diet coke, but I tell myself it was.

YAY! I told you that you could do it! One snack I eat at night when I need extra points is a Apple with peanut butter. It is still healthy and the peanut butter packs on some points with out being “bad” food.

Congrats on the loss! You did awesome! Thought of you on my way to Town Center today. Stopped at your Kohl’s, McD’s, and Walmart on my way back home. lol Got gas at Walmart for $2.43 a gallon. I reset my trip mileage when I filled up and I only live about 45 miles from your Walmart. šŸ™‚

  7. You should be proud of yourself! You are developing great habits that will take you right to your goal. I really need to drink fewer diet sodas and more water…I stock the house with propel in hopes that will ease the transition as I am a diet coke addict!

Way to go! The others weight loss might have been more liquid. Yours will be the more accurate weigh in. It is better to lose it slow like you are doing.

I am not a big fan of increased water intake–I’m not sure there is sound biology behind it. Although it does fill the stomach and help with society.

  11. Don’t they say a 2 lb loss a week is a pretty good and healthy achievement? Because the body can adjust in an apropriate way and you are probably more likely going to keep it off than a radical loss?

  12. Ferox says:

Vein, the theory with increased watre intake is that if you’re dehydrated you may have learnt to satisfy your water intake with moist foods instead or water, and you feel less thirsty so you are less likely to seek out a milkshake or soft drink.
