Updates

Wow, I didn’t think I would become one of “those” bloggers who rarely updates once they become a mommy, but that’s exactly what’s happened. When Lucy is sleeping, I’m either trying to catch a quick nap as well or get things done around the house. Hopefully I’ll be around more than once a week from now on.

Here’s what’s going on in our world:

Gift Guide
  • Lucy is still a great sleeper. She usually wakes up only once a night, twice on bad nights. Her gas seems to be going away, which makes sleeping much better for all of us.
  • I am still recovering from the labor and delivery, and I am blessed that even though Joe has gone back to work, he still gets up with Lucy at night. I am so lucky to have him as a husband.
  • I am no longer breastfeeding. I wasn’t producing much to begin with and was getting only 4 oz. *a day* on a good day. I know babies get more when they nurse, but last week I pumped absolutely nothing. To me, trying to continue breastfeeding and pumping wasn’t worth the hassle. Even though I stopped nursing and pumping cold turkey, I didn’t go through the pain and engorgement most women say occurs. That also makes me think that I really wasn’t producing anything. I’m so happy with the way things have gone. I wasn’t passionate enough about breastfeeding to begin with. I was only doing it so Lucy could get the nutrients and antibodies and to hopefully help me lose weight faster. I feel so much less stressed now that Lucy’s on formula. I know it was the right decision for us.
  • Lucy has a *horrible* diaper rash. It’s started to crack and bleed, and now I know why she screams so much when we change her. I feel *so* awful for her because I know she’s in pain. We’re coating her with Desitin, and I hope the rash goes away soon!
  • We went out without Lucy for the first time Wednesday night. Joe’s mom came up to babysit, and even though Grandma was here, it was still *so* hard for me. I cried all the way to the restaurant! I was definitely ready to get home by the time the party was over.
  • Staying home with Lucy is harder than I thought it would be. It’s very demanding, and I feel bad because I don’t seem to have time to get anything done around the house. By the time Joe gets home, I’m exhausted and ready to hand Lucy off to him for a bit. However, I would not trade this time for anything, and I am relishing every bit of my maternity leave. I am planning on going back to work around the beginning of February, and I am already dreading it. I feel like time is moving way too fast!
  • That’s about all that’s up with us right now. My next topic? Recovering from labor and delivery: why doesn’t anyone warn you about that??

I’m glad you were able to make the right decision for you about breast-feeding. I feel like there is a lot of stigma for women who choose not to breastfeed or are unable to do so for whatever reason, and it’s really unnecessary. There was a great article about this in The Atlantic earlier this year: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200904/case-against-breastfeeding

Also, I bet it’s nice for Joe that now the feeding relationship isn’t exclusively between mom and baby.

Welcome to blogging in bullet form ~ I do that frequently! 🙂 Glad you feel much more at peace with nursing/formula. And about recovering after having a baby ~ yeah, I had *no* idea what that would be like! No one told me about it … the bleeding, the spritzing myself “down there” with a squirt bottle after an episiotomy … ugh!

Yeah, NOBODY mentions the squirt bottle. Or the mesh undies, the Tucks pads, the incessant bleeding, the night sweats. Seriously!! I had a particularly horrendous recovery. I am pretty sure it was a lot worse than most c-section mamas. Yuck. 🙁 You’ll feel better soon.

If Lucy has a bad diaper rash, you should try to get some damp soft cloths to use for wiping. Baby wipes, even the sensitive ones, burn when you have a rash (I know this from personal experience…don’t ask).

My mom suggested damp cloths as well. We’ll definitely try that with her. It breaks my heart to hear her crying so badly when we change her!

Oh my gosh, don’t worry about the breastfeeding! You gave it a great shot and it is HARD at first. Now Joe can help you feed and honestly, she will probably sleep through the night a lot longer faster with formula!

I remember the recovery- it’s horrible. I posted about it some with Amelia, because it was so traumatizing for me. I am dreading it this time but just trying to remember how quickly it all goes by 🙂 I honestly had no idea how bad it would be- no one warned me!!

Ah, the wonderful world of new motherhood and trying to keep it all together 🙂 Seriously, you make the best choices that’s going to keep the whole family happiest… it’s the only way to go. Nap time would make a good blogging time if hubby isn’t freaking out about the house LOL!

Glad you’re enjoying your maternity leave! And what a great husband. 🙂 I hope the diaper rash gets better…the poor thing!

Have you ever heard of Arbonne? It is all natural skin care line and they have a baby line. I have had so many mommy’s say that is the best stuff ever for their babies. There is a diaper rash cream in it as well. I just started selling Arbonne 2 months ago but I have been using the line for almost 2 years myself.

We’ve had some amazing times, some not so great ones, and we really put the “in sickness and in health” part of our vows to the test this last year. This man is always willing to get my pain pills in the middle of the night, has helped me through Covid recovery and does everything I can’t without complaint. He’s also the funniest person I know and can always make me laugh, and he’s pretty hot, too. I am a lucky woman to call him my husband. Here’s to many more years of happily ever after. I love you! ❤️❤️
