feeling married

yesterday was one of those days that makes you feel married. after work and while waiting for my car to be done at firestone, we headed to lowe’s. joe wanted to pick up some stain to do the deck. while we were there, we decided to start planning to paint the bathroom. we want to do a light purple, since our shower curtain has pastel purple, green and blue. i think we’ve decided on water hyacinth by laura ashley home. i think it’s pretty. of course, you never really can tell until you start painting. i can’t decide if we would want a little darker color or not.

after we paint the bathroom, we’re going to do the kitchen and our bedroom. i know i want a yellow in the bedroom, and i was thinking a light yellow in the kitchen, since our colors are red and yellow, but i don’t know if i want two yellow rooms. what do you think about a red kitchen? i like autumn fire, but i don’t know if it’s too bold. of course, martha stewart says to go with mustard yellow for the kitchen. decisions, decisions.

Gift Guide

it’s times like this that i hate being indecisive. now, here’s my question. do you think repainting will help or hurt us when we want to resell? the walls are a nice neutral color now, but they’re all the same color. and we won’t be selling for several years, but it’s always something i think about.

Yeah, yesterday was pretty wonderful. You didn’t mention how awesome the deck is starting to look! 🙂

Hello, My name is Shelly and I just stumbled across your blog. I think red for a kitchen is a great idea providing there is a lot of light in the room. Good luck!

My kitchen is RED! Bright, bold red. I LOVE it. And we get SO many compliments, everyone who comes in exclaims the second they walk in, “Love your red kitchen!” It’s very eye-catching.

gff: do you think red would look alright since you can see the dining part of the kitchen from the living room?

I think a red kitchen is a good idea. I’ve actually been thinking of painting my kitchen red…if I ever get motivated to take down the awful wallpaper. About the purple paint, I bet you’ll like the color you picked, paint always seems darker to me on the wall than it was on the chip, so you’ll probably be glad you didn’t go with a darker color…plus bathrooms are sorta small rooms so lighter colors make them seem less closed in.

I also think red would look amazing in your kitchen. If I could paint mine, it would be red … instead, I’ve got red towels, a red rug, red plates, red everything! So yes, it’s a good color! 🙂

Our kitchen had one red wall for effect, and it looked amazing. People were always complimenting on the color. Red is vibrant and perfect for a kitchen.

I think a red kitchen would look FABulous! Just make sure if you paint it red to paint a primer on first – I painted my moms living room red and didn’t put a primer on first and it took like 4 coats!! ALSO red will cover up the little finger prints and stains that little ones tend to paint! I think it will add value and appeal to the house – people can envision what it will look like when ya’ll choose to sell! Go for it!!

I am a major yellow lover, so I’m always in favor, but a friend of mine painted her kitchen red and it looks awesome. Totally cozy and home-y!

okay, being honest here. I am currently house hunting, and I am kinda over the red rooms. very over them. want to repaint them. this is weird, because we painted our apt in college (it was cute and in new orleans) a pretty cranberry color and I loved it. But now…so over it. Just saying, as a buyer right now. It’s just not original anymore…sorry 🙁

how about like a terra cotta red, rather than a brighter or darker red. something that is a red but also a neutral?

I think color helps resell – as long as it is nice. I really don’t think it would matter much, as most people paint when they move in.

Pick whatever colors make you happy! You’re living there right now, after all 🙂

i think you should definitely paint. and paint in the colors that will make you the happiest. if you are not moving for a few years, chances are, you’ll repaint it again before you move anyhow. i love red and even if just as an accent wall.

He’s also the funniest person I know and can always make me laugh, and he’s pretty hot, too. I am a lucky woman to call him my husband. Here’s to many more years of happily ever after.
