a weekend with joe’s family is never boring. as i mentioned before, the rabbi called out joe’s name when he was reading the list of people who had died during the last year during services friday night. nana’s response was definitely the quote of the day: “it must have been another joe schulman.”
at the end of the service, we sang a *fabulous* song for passover called “five constipated men” (because of the effects of matzah). check out the lyrics. it is so funny.
we woke up early the next morning and hung out with joe’s parents and nana until a couple of realtors came to talk with joe’s parents about putting their house on the market. we headed out with nana and went to the mall, where nana bought me the cutest dress, and then we took her to the salon for her appointment.
that night, dave’s parents came over for the passover seder. during the seder, everyone reads the story of the flight from egypt from the haggadah, and you have to eat certain things (like parsley dipped in salt water to represent the tears of the jewish people) at certain parts. it’s really interesting.
before the seder, we all colored name cards that rachel had bought, and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun with it, especially the adults. they were the “kids” for the night, and they really took advantage of that!
since joe and rachel led the seder this year, they had to hide the afikoman for the adults to find. the afikoman is half of a piece of matzah that is hidden during the seder for the children to find after the meal. usually, the child who finds it gets a couple of dollars as a prize. this year, we came up with a different prize for the parents. the person who found it got to choose how many grandkids they want from both couples combined. joe’s mom found it, and she chose 10, five for each of us. i told her she gets to furnish the nurseries for all 10 babies.
the weekend was a lot of fun. we always enjoy family get togethers, which is one reason why passover is joe’s favorite holiday. but, i know he’ll be glad when it’s over and he can eat bread, pasta, rice and corn again!

You should have clarified with your mother in law that she was also paying for a home large enough to house ten babies, lol.
Sounds like a fun weekend, I wish Pete’s Parents lived closer, I miss family stuff!
my (jewish) friend was talking about passover and someone commented that she liked matzah-something. my friend remarked – yeah, just wait until it is EVERYTHING you eat for a week contains matzah, then tell me how you like it!?!? 🙂
10 grandkids! That is ambitious for a two kid family!!
sounds like you all had a great time… but wow 10 grandkids… she is ambitious hehehe…
