My news director’s father passed away yesterday. In the last year, she’s lost both him and her grandmother. It’s really made me start thinking about how lucky I am. I will be 29 in March, and most people I know who are around my age have lost grandparents. One of my elementary school classmates has lost both her parents. And yet I have all my grandparents and my parents still alive. I am very lucky.
I think I take my grandparents for granted. They’ve been around my entire life, and though they’re now in their 80s, I think I still have the mentality that they’re invincible. But, I know they’re not, and events like this put things in perspective for me. I definitely need to make a better attempt to keep in touch with them and let them know just how much I love them. And, I need to keep that in mind more often.

You are lucky. I don’t have any grandparents left anymore. I actually read an article recently that people in the Loma Linda, CA area live the longest in the country & they think it has a lot to do with the SDA lifestyle. So maybe the longevity in you family has a lot to do with being SDA & living a healthy, vegetarian lifestyle.

I think about this often. I still have all of my grandparents as well as 2 living great grandparents who are both in amazing health. It’s going to kill me one day when one of them passes.
