I’ve realized that I have a lot of time to just sit here, surf the Internet and think of things I want to do or buy for this baby. I feel like I’m jumping the gun since I’m barely almost six weeks along, but it’s helping me pass the time until next week’s ultrasound without going crazy. And, as long as I’m just looking and making notes about what I like but not *buying* anything, I think I’m in good shape.
One thing I’ve been thinking about is what to do for birth announcements. I’d love to make them myself, but we’re going to have so many to send that I just don’t know if I’d be able to do it right now. Plus, we want to include a picture. I’ve seen some cute announcements on various Web sites, but I’ve also thought about doing birth announcement magnets. One of our friends used magnets to announce the birth of his daughter, and we still have it up on our fridge. In fact, they now send a magnet with an updated picture of their daughter every year with their Christmas cards. I think it’s a cute idea, and we have both of them now stuck to our fridge. I’m wondering if magnets would be something that more people would be apt to keep up on their fridge longer than a picture or a photo announcement. And, I like the fact that not many people use magnets for their birth announcements because, really, who wants to be like everyone else?? Plus, who doesn’t like extra magnets to use to adhere papers to the fridge.
So, here’s my question to all of you: Did you do birth announcements? If so, what did you do for yours? And what do you think of the magnet idea?

I can imagine the time is going by soo slow! I think all 1st pregnancies do but I can imagine it’s moreso for you & Joe.

When Justin was born, we didn’t do announcements (now I regret not doing it 🙁 ). With Kendall, we bought some announcements from WalMart & included a pic of Kendall when he was 2 days old. I saved a copy of the announcement & the pic to put in Kendall’s baby book.

I think the magnet idea is great. With Lucas, I made them myself. I used ivory-colored card stock and stamped it with a Stampin’ Up! set ~ transportation (cars, trucks, boats, etc.). Then, I attached a vellum sheet over top that had a picture of him, birth details, etc. Since I did them ahead of time, it wasn’t hard to put them together after he was born and send them out. Anything you can have done ahead of time is great if you’re going to make them yourself! With Meri, I printed them on our computer and hated the way they turned out. 🙁
We did magnets for our “save the date” cards for our wedding and people still have them up after all this time. I think people really enjoy the novelty of it.
With LG, we bought our birth announcements from the company that takes the hospital pictures. They were extremely cute, but cost way too much. They obviously included a picture.
With the twins, I designed my own and had them printed with a professional printer. They were much cheaper and just as cute, if not cuter.
I like the magnet idea as long as they’re not too expensive. As your previous commenter noted, I know some people that did a save the date thing with a magnet as well.
A graphic design artist friend designed mine. My daughter’s name is Zoe. She just did big letters across the page w/her picture in the “O”. I emailed the file to Kinko’s & had them print them out in color on glossy postcards. they came out SO cute & very original.
