Sweet Tea & Day Dreams

April 8, 2009

Six Weeks

Week six has been nothing but terror. Yesterday, my spotting went away, and I thought everything was great. I had a good day filled with dancing with Callie in the kitchen (now the baby knows his/her mama can’t sing!) and talking to the baby, whom we’ve named Lil’ Geek since Joe’s blog is called Fitness Geek. Everything was great, with the small exception of dealing with the billing department.

When we met up for dinner after our meetings, I started having really bad cramps, like the kind that make you double over in pain, which I probably would have done if I hadn’t been out in public. When we got home and I went to the bathroom, I screamed because I had started bleeding. Not spotting, bleeding. I think that’s the most scared I’ve ever been.

Gift Guide

Joe called the on-call doctor, who happened to be one of the residents who’s done a lot of my u/s, and he said that varying amounts of bleeding are normal during the first trimester and, as long as it didn’t get worse by today (as in full on period bleeding) then they won’t be worried. I, of course, was ready to head to the hospital to get a scan done, but the doctor told Joe unless I was in the middle of a miscarriage we wouldn’t really see anything different.

We spent last night crying (ok, I was the only one crying), praying for God to keep Lil’ Geek safe and trying to take our minds off everything by watching the Biggest Loser. I’m surprised either of us got any sleep last night, but we did, and this morning when I first checked everything was gone. Then, when I went to the bathroom a second time there was some brown (old blood…a good sign), and now it all seems to be gone again.

I’m taking today off work. I think I need to just take it easy today and take good care of Lil’ Geek. Part of me feels that I could have caused this bleeding by trying to do too much.

On a different note, I have gotten a lump under my skin from the progesterone shots. I was hoping to avoid this, but I have slacked off in using my heating pad lately, so I guess I asked for it. Boy, is my butt sore right now, though!

Oh, and my morning sickness seems to have gone away, which freaks me out because I’ve read that the absence of pregnancy symptoms means a miscarriage could be occuring. And, I can’t remember if I’ve had the incredible fatigue in the afternoons. My boobs, however, are still so sore that it hurts to sleep on my side. Someone please let me know that these disappearing symptoms are normal at this stage in the game!

I can’t wait until Friday’s u/s. The doctor told Joe last night we might not see the heartbeat, but I’m praying that we do. I need to see that to ease my mind.

omg hunny… I don’t even know what to say… I know that I did have some strange bleeding and lots of spotting with this pregnancy… and I never really had morning sickness… just every once and a while had a bout with my stomach cramping which I think was this prengnacy verison of morning sickness lol…

but everyone has a different pregnancy and each pregnancy is different from the last… Hang in there until Friday sweetie!! HUGS and prayers being sent your way!

I’ll keep you in my prayers! I burst a blood vessel in my cervix when I was pregnant with Liam, and of course things were fine. Hopefully it’s just something like that. I think this is the post where I had my scare:

Take it easy and try to relax until Friday. You might not hear it Friday, but I think if they do an ultrasound, they might be able to see it starting to beat. I think there’s a time where you can see the heart moving before it really starts actual beats.

This has been quite the few days for you! I pray that on Friday everything will be great and you will hear your little one’s heart beating like crazy!

I nominated you for an award on my blog!

I can’t even imagine how you’re feeling right now. I’m just keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully come Friday you’ll learn that everything is just fine. Rest is probably the best thing you can do right now.

First, STOP freaking out! Stress is not a good thing. Relax, because whatever will be will be. I remember “spotting” and freaking years ago (my son is going on 18) and thinking it was the end, but it wasn’t. I also NEVER during the entire pregnancy not once had morning sickness. So stop whatever you are reading, enjoy life, relax, eat well, take lots of folic acid, and continue to enjoy The Biggest Loser (one of my favorites, too).

I agree with Diane! You need to rest, and only think positive thoughts. Not everybody does get sick, and if they do, it isn’t always in the morning either. Relax, I’m sure you and the little Geek will be fine!

Thinking of you and Joe this morning as you’re off getting your u/s and praying it goes well. I don’t think the bleeding has anything to do with you doing too much– you seem to be doing everything right!!!– but I hope you will continue taking good care of yourself and nurturing yourself.

This man is always willing to get my pain pills in the middle of the night, has helped me through Covid recovery and does everything I can’t without complaint. He’s also the funniest person I know and can always make me laugh, and he’s pretty hot, too. I am a lucky woman to call him my husband. Here’s to many more years of happily ever after.
