We decided to finally start sleep training Lucy. She sleeps *really* well, usually around 10 hours a night, but recently she won’t nap unless I’m holding her.
I admit, it’s my fault. I got her used to falling asleep while I hold her. But, she’s just so snuggly that I love cuddling with her. And usually, it was never a problem to put her down in her crib after she fell asleep. She would just keep on snoozin’. Lately? Not so much. The minute I move, she wakes up.
So, on Friday, we decided we would start putting her down in her crib when she got tired and let her cry it out. We started with bed time. I’ve had friends tell me their babies cried for several hours the first night, so we were prepared for the worst.
She cried for 19 minutes. She stopped for 3-minute stretches after that with some sniffles in between. She was out cold in 30 minutes. Seriously?? Thirty minutes??
The next night, it took three minutes with only one minute of actual crying.
Today, we branched out and started putting her down in her crib at nap time. For her morning nap, she was asleep after 24 minutes. The time was much shorter with each subsequent nap with this most recent one taking her only a couple of minutes before she was quiet.
It seems to have been an easy transition. I’ll take it!

Yeah! Glad to hear it’s going well. Drake does really well, but if we don’t find just the right time for him to go down he can fuss.

Great fortitude Cady! Oh that two of our kids had followed that routine. Not only does this give you some much needed downtime, you are starting to set those invaluable internal checks that helps children manage themselves much better as they grow. I am going to nominate you for the Wise Mama of he Month award 🙂
Oh, on another post. Don’t worry about whose name she got first. She’ll have yours on her lips soon — and again, and again, and…
Cheers,

You are strong! Go Cady! It took me forever to do this with Amelia, but we’ve started with Karlie and it’s going well. When they sleep well, EVERYONE is happy!
