I have been a full time journalist for 11 years. That’s about to change.

Today, I turned in my resignation. Beginning in October, I will be freelancing for several online news sites and, if everything pans out, some magazines as well. I will be working from home, and I will have MUCH more time with Lucy. As much as I have enjoyed being a journalist, that love is waning. I no longer get excited when news breaks. I groan. I don’t like covering late night meetings three days a week. I’d rather be home with my daughter and my husband.

And, now, I will get to stay home with Lucy while still bringing in my income. Luckily, I have been able to find enough work to match my current salary. I know I’ll be busy, but it will be a different kind of busy, and it will be on my schedule. That’s the kicker. The flexibility is what is going to be great. I want to go to a play date with Lucy? No problem!

This decision came after lots of time in prayer and in discussion with Joe. It’s scary leaving my stable, full time job for something that’s not as stable, but I think this is where God wants me to be. Otherwise, I don’t think everything would have lined up so well. I have enough work and then some. I’ve actually been freelancing for the last couple of weeks in addition to my full time job and, let me tell you, I am exhausted! On Monday, I was gone from the house for 14 hours. I saw Lucy for maybe 10 minutes in the morning. I’m a little nervous about getting everything done, but I know that without this job to go to in the afternoons, I’ll have plenty of time. It’ll just take some time to get used to it.

So, farewell to my full time career. It’s been fun, but now it’s time for a change.
