Lucy has torticollis. This was something we’d been wondering about since we noticed her turning her head to one side, but our former pediatrician said we didn’t need to be worried about it. Today, we saw a different doctor in the practice, and he said that she has torticollis. He doesn’t think it’s severe at this point and he thinks we caught it early enough. We’re being referred to a pediatric ENT, and we were told Lucy might have to have a helmet.
The doctor said the torticollis is likely why she’s not lifting her head yet, and he thinks that once it gets fixed she’ll start lifting her head more. He said her neck muscles feel normal for her age, which is good.
I’m really pissed off that our old pediatrician didn’t take us seriously. We could have nipped this in the bud a month or so ago. At least now we know, and I know we made the right decision in switching doctors.

I’m glad you’ll be able to have it looked at. A couple of the kids on my online group had it. One of them wore a helmet for a while. The others just grew out of it. Hopefully you’ll get some good assistance! *hugs*
Oh, that sucks that your other doctor didn’t listen to you, but I’m glad you have a good doctor now and that you’ll be able to deal with this problem early. Good luck!
Cady,
Your a great Mom you noticed and had it looked at and now will get Lucy what she needs. Just because a Dr has a degree does not make him/her know your childs every need. You are with her every day and are her voice right now.
You spoke up, you saw another Dr.
Sometimes you have to go on your gut instinct…
I also learned that the hard way.
This is treatable and she’ll overcome this.
Decorate her helmet with some cute favorites. That would be super cute!

I am glad you found a different doctor! Other things you’ve mentioned have bugged me about him. She will get past this condition; I have known at least two kids who’ve had to wear helmets.
My doctor always says “Mama knows”. He’s a smart man! 🙂 Everytime I take Zoe in when something’s just not right, he believes me, checks her & usually finds something. I love him and think that may be the thing I like most about him.
Now that you’ve addressed the problem & are delaing with it, I’m sure Lucy will be fine.
Glad you dumped the dumb doctor! I’ve known a couple kids who had the helmets and are just fine – happy and healthy little kids. Plus, you can get the helmets customized with something super cute and girlie!
Thank goodness you found a better doc!
Amelia had torticollis. We went for PT-type interventions rather than the helmet. Lots of tummy time and gentle neck stretching. Hopefully your pediatrician will recommend those more gentle interventions first- from what I researched (this was nearly 4 years ago), they are really effective a lot of the time.
Let us know how it goes!
So sorry about the other doctor. It’s so frustrating when they misdiagnose something. Glad you switched. I hope the helmet helps Lucy. The poor thing. 🙁
