my station manager said i can have my own show. yay!
this, however, creates a dilemma as i try to decide what kind of show to do. this, my friends, is where you come in. i need all your creative ideas and input to help me figure this out. here’s the rundown:
- my station plays oldies music
- our demographic is primarily older residents
- it might be nice to try to attract younger listeners
- my show most likely will not be live. pre-recording kind of limits me.
we already have several shows:
- newsmakers
- community voices
i think newsmakers is self-explanatory. community voices is similar by interviewing people in the community. now that i think about it, most of our shows consist of interviews, so maybe i should move away from that.
i was thinking something revolving around books. i even thought of a name — “book talk”! this could go involve interviews with authors. however, it might be beneficial to have listeners call in, which wouldn’t really work with a recorded show.
sigh. i’m so excited about this idea, but kind of drawing a blank. your thoughts?
Whatever you pick, it’ll be great. That being said, I like the book idea because you can also do shows on subjects like “Heroes” “Best supporting characters” “Best novels nobody is reading.”
that’s awesome; congratulations! how often would your show air and would you have time to read the books before your show? i would certainly listen to a show about books and from reading your blog, i have no doubt that you’ll make it great.
The book idea sounds great! You might be able to get around the pre-recording by reading listener emails or pre-taped call-in opinions. Not as exciting as live discussion, of course, but if it’s popular, it might entice the station to go live.
Books might also bridge the gap between age groups.
Congrats on your own show!
A show on books is a great idea. You’re a better woman than I am if you could do an entire show on what you’ve been reading! 🙂
I, on the other hand, would LOVE to do a shopping show. It would be called “Deals of the Day,” and I’d describe all the wonderful sales I’ve seen and the bargains I’ve taken advantage of. Oh, and there’s always new products to test. Free samples would roll in daily and I’d be in heaven! Ha!!
Yeah … I’m a shopaholic. 🙂
ooohh…a shopping show would be fun…. 🙂
Did someone say shopping?
Congratulations, Cady! I wish I had some ideas for you, but I’m drawing a blank as well. The stations I listen to just play music for the most part, w/ a little talk in the morning. I didn’t even know there were other types of shows! For some reason I thought you worked for a TV station….so when I saw that you were getting your own show…I thought WOW…she’s going to be the next Katie Couric…but this is really awesome too…you can be the next Howard Stern, lol. So you are going to break that old saying that the cute people are on TV and the uglies are on the radio…b/c you are cute as a button. Good luck! And I cannot wait to find out what you decide!!!
whatever you pick, I hope we can listen to it online 🙂
