Sweet Tea & Day Dreams

November 27, 2007

names

here’s a question for all you married women: what do you call your mil? rachel calls her mil “mom”, and dave calls my mil the same thing. for some reason, i feel weird calling her that. i’m not really sure why. maybe the fact that she calls herself “steph” to me has something to do with it. do any of you feel the same way?

I call her by her first name. I only call her “mom” when I’m joking around. She’s not my mom so why do it?

hmm i’m not married, but i think it depends on the relationship. if you feel comfortable then do it. but if you have to think twice about it, then you’re probably not.

I call mine by her first name. I would probably call her “mom” and my FIL “dad” if my own father hadn’t passed away a few years ago. Now the thought of calling anyone else “dad” is just weird to me, personally.

I call her Linda, which conviently enough, is her name.

My sister in law calls her Mom which makes me feel kind of standoffish, especially because I’ve been ‘in the family’ longer. But I just can’t bring myself to call her mom.

Susan. Her first name. “Mom” would be super weird. Too weird.

Fortunately, I have two sisters-in-law, and they already blazed that trail for me.

I don’t think I’ll ever call AS’s parents “mom” and “dad.” His sister-in-law calls them by their first names and that’s just fine by me! I have my own mom and dad!

You can always shift to “grandma” and “grandpa” when you guys have kids.

I always call her Taiko because I already have a mom & I really don’t think of my MIL as mom. I suppose if you have a close relationship with her, then you could call her mom. But if you feel weird about it, then it’s not right. My MIL told me to call her whatever I was comfortable with. Maybe you should just talk to her & see how she feels about it.

I always called my MIL by her first name (she passed away 3 years ago). Good luck w/whatever you decide 🙂

I refuse to call Jason’s parents “mom” and “dad”. I honestly don’t have to call her anything too often, but when I do I call her Debbie. When I’m talking to Lila about her I call her Grandma.

like ashlie, i call her “mom” when i’m joking around or answering the phone when she’s on the line. most often, though, i just call her by her first name. my brother-in-law calls her mom, but i’m not to that stage in the relationship yet =)

I called my first MIL “Momma ______” just cause it fit her and untill the roof fell in we were good.

What does Joe’s sister call her?

Well, this is a great post, Cady, seriously. I have a friend that just calls her MIL “Hey you” or “Did you want to go to the store?”. Seriously. I call her Barb on the calendar, your Mom when I hand the phone to Greg, Grandma in Ohio with the kids around. Hm. I guess I have to figure it out. I’ve called her Mom in the past, but, she is my MIL not my mom. I’ve never really decided. You’re smart figuring it out before you have kids!

I’m not married, but I’m going to answer to. After being with Jason for five years, he STILL calls my parents Mr & Mrs S, despite them asking him to call them by name.

I feel a bit awkward calling them Mr & Mrs D, so tend to stick to their first names – but I HATE IT! I wish there was a nice in between name.. because if we got married, I don’t think I could ever call them Mum or Dad.

Pete and I are not married, but I can, couldn’t call his parents Mom & Dad. They arn’t my Mom and Dad. I also can’t call them Ray & Eva. I was always taught to call adults Mr. and Miss. Like Mr. Ray and Miss Eva. EXCEPT Pete says they don’t do that in New Jersey and to just call them Ray and Eva or Mr. Reese and Mrs. Reese. I am not calling them that either since his mom says “love you” when we hang up on the phone. So to answer this easy question….. I call them both “Excuse Me”. LOL — Excuse Me, would you like a drink? Excuse Me, where is the bathroom? LOL

Oh and I forgot the end………

I can not wait til we have kids, then I can call them Gramps and Granny! LOL

This man is always willing to get my pain pills in the middle of the night, has helped me through Covid recovery and does everything I can’t without complaint. He’s also the funniest person I know and can always make me laugh, and he’s pretty hot, too. I am a lucky woman to call him my husband. Here’s to many more years of happily ever after. I love you! ❤️❤️
