I’ve been thinking a lot lately about having lasik surgery done. iIve had problems with my vision since high school. First, I wore the world’s largest pair of glasses. Seriously. I was a dork. Then, I got contacts, which I’ve worn ever since. I’ve been thinking more and more about lasik surgery ever since a coworker of mine had it done last year.
One of the big things holding me back was cost. But, I found out that no only is it less expensive than I thought it would be, I can use my flex spending card for it, which is all pre-tax money. Plus, the money I would be saving with annual eye exams and buying several boxes of contacts a year would more than make up the cost.
Another reservation I’ve had is getting the “heebie jeebies”. It’s similar to how I felt when I first started wearing contacts (“You want me to stick something in my eye??”). It’s just freaky to think about them doing surgery on your eye. But, darlene said it really wasn’t that bad. Just hearing about a procedure from someone you know who’s had it done helps a lot. Plus, it’s only supposed to last for about five minutes. Surely I can handle that.
There are lasik eye centers all over the country. Lasik in silicon valley is big, but we have several places here in Atlanta. This is just one reason why I’m glad I live so close to a big city.
I would *love* to have uncorrected vision again. How about you? Do you guys wear contacts? Is lasik surgery something you’d want to do?

I would discuss this with an optometrist before you go to see a Lasik doctor for one reason: I was thinking of having Lasik, too when the doctor told me that they correct your vision, but when you age, because your eyes have been altered, you are stuck wearing glasses. Almost all elderly people need glasses and having Lasik won’t change that. She said by wearing glasses now, you slowing vision degeneration as opposed to having a pricey surgery and then eventually needing glasses. Just a thought…

Growing up I was always told I wasn’t a candidate, because my eyes are so bad (I’m legally blind without glasses or contacts). But I once took a survey online that indicated I was still a candidate. I’ve thought about it many times, but I feel like it’s something I’m so used to now that it doesn’t hinder me on a daily basis. I would still probably need correction of some form, so I’d rather not have expensive surgery and still wear contacts or glasses.

I had LASIK Oct 2006. My Dr gives his patients Valium before a procedure. Trust me. You want it 🙂 I only took half a pill, was still feeling nervous, took the rest. Lets just say it kicked in AFTER the procedure! It wasn’t bad though. Bob was even able to go in the room and hold my hand. Only lasted about 5 mins. I now have 20/15 vision. Just make sure you have a very experienced dr. Ask how many procedures he/she has done. I am happy with my results.

I have had terrible eyes since I was 8 years old. I’ve really thought about getting the surgery done, but don’t think I can. I think your eyes have to stay the same for two years or more in a row, and mine get worse every single year, plus I have a stigmatism. I think it would be so cool, though. I couldn’t imagine waking up in the middle of the night and being able to see!

I had LASIK in March 2007 and I’d absolutely recommend it. I had the heebie jeebies, too, but in reality the procedure was so quick and painless that I barely knew what was happening. Recovery was quick, too–I was only out of commission for one afternoon / evening!
