I’m getting pretty familiar with the L&D triage room.
Last night after we got home, I was continuing to have contractions, though they were more mild than they had been. Around 10 p.m., they started getting really bad, and around 11:30 p.m. we called the OB’s office because I was in horrible pain and the contractions were 2 minutes or fewer apart. We were told to give it an hour and if I was still contracting I likely was in labor and to head back to the hospital.
So, around 1 a.m., we headed back. We registered, were taken up to L&D and put back in the triage room. The nurse came in to check me and, while Lucy was around a -2 or -1 station (I like to go with -1!) and the nurse could feel her head, I was *still* not dilated. At that point I started to cry because I had been contracting for more than 12 hours straight and close to 24 hours yet not making any progress. I really didn’t want her coming this early, but if I’m going to be contracting I’d rather just go ahead and deliver her.
It turns out my UTI is still “raging”, and the nurse said that could be causing the contractions. She gave me a shot of morphine and phenegren, which knocked me out. However, this morning I awoke to, you guessed it, contractions. We called my doctor for a different UTI prescription since the first one obviously isn’t doing much good, and I’m hoping that once it gets knocked out I’ll feel a lot better. However, I think life is going to be pretty miserable until then.
Oh no!!! Are you drinking a lot of cranberry juice and water? I can’t believe the UTI is still so bad, I am sooo sorry. Contractions SUCK and long-lasting ones even MORE so. I hope you’re getting a lot of rest and taking it easy.

Oh, Cady…this stinks! Hope the UTI gets cleared up soon and the next time you feel contractions it’s because you are getting ready to hold your baby girl!
Gosh, I understand the frustration of contractions and cervical pain with no progress. I hope your UTI clears up and Miss Lucy gives you some painless weeks before her arrival!

Hang in there. She’ll come. Those “false” contractions (not really false since they are actually doing something, just not leading to labor quite yet), are really annoying. You can have them for weeks without actually making too much progress, although yours sound much worse. With Alexa had contractions for about a week that kept coming & going. I never actually made it into L&D, but I came close to going twice. The only reason I didn’t was that I was planning on laboring at home for as long as I could.
I’ll keep praying that these contractions start showing more progress for you!

Even though you have a UTI, it sounds like your body is REALLY gearing up for the big day. It won’t be long now. Wow!!! Feel better soon!
