Today started off great. Lucy and I left the house around 11 a.m. to run some errands, and hit Target before going to Joann to buy fabric and ribbons for the taggie blanket I’m going to make this weekend.
Then, we stopped for lunch. Lucy was smiley and giggly all day and, though she didn’t fuss, I figured I’d be a good mom and go ahead and check her diaper, which I was sure needed to be changed.
I picked her up out of her car seat and thought it was odd that the back of her pants felt wet. Weird. When I got her into the bathroom and pulled off her pants, I realized they were soaked. So was her white onesie, although at that point it was turning into a brown onesie. And, her dress, which went OVER her pants, was wet.
Yes, it turns out my daughter had been sitting for who knows how long in the dirtiest diaper to date, and not only had she peed through THREE LAYERS OF CLOTHING, but she also soaked her car seat. Seriously. There was a freaking pool of pee in it. And she didn’t cry. At all. Really? THIS is the time she chooses to not cry??
And, of course, I had taken her extra outfit out of her diaper bag and forgotten to put it back in. *Hangs head in shame*
I thought about taking her out in just her diaper and wrapping her in a blanket, but I ended up just putting her dress back on (since it wasn’t as bad) and put her blanket over her since, you know, I didn’t want to be known as the mom who takes her baby out in chilly weather in a sleeveless dress.
I didn’t have time to go home and change her once we got back into town, so we stopped by Kohl’s to wash off her car seat, change her diaper again (since, you know, there was PEE on her car seat) and buy her a new outfit.
As we were making our way to the register, I said, “Well, at least you got a new outfit out of this.”
And she smirked at me. Yes, she SMIRKED.
I said, “You did all this on purpose, didn’t you??”
And she smiled. Yes, folks, this girl really is my daughter. She knows how to work the system. And, now I will always make sure she has a backup outfit when we leave the house.

Put a backup change of clothes and an extra diaper in the car, you never know when random diapers leaks will occur or vomit is to come out of the blue…seriously kids puke at random times for no reason at all. Also include wipes or roll of paper towels too they come in handy cleaning things up…
That is *so* funny! She has quite a sense of humor! 🙂 Oh, I remember those wet soaks that slowly turn to brown. Ick!!! I don’t miss that! I agree with Stacy C. above ~ we always put diapers and wipes in the glove box of the car, just in case, and an extra change of clothes in the car would be good, too!
