I should be pregnant by my birthday at the end of March. Hooray!
We set up our plan today when we met with our doctor. We go in for orientation on January 26, and we’ll start the IVF process with my cycle in February. I can’t believe how close everything is! I’m *so* excited and yet so nervous. The orientation is going to be pretty much a full day at the clinic starting with a trial transfer (which really does not sound like a lot of fun) and an ultrasound. Then we’ll be meeting with the doctor, putting down our deposit (which is really just paying in full) and going through another injection training class geared toward me and our plan. We’ll get a schedule of when I need to take each medication.
The best part is that my insurance covers all the ultrasounds and blood work, so we’ll have money leftover on our flex cards after we pay for the IVF costs to cover the meds. Luckily, I’ll be on the low end of those.
I am so freakin excited. I want to start now!

How exciting! I think we’re feeling emotionally ready to try and have kids, but with the move and housing situation I think we’re a little hesitant to really, officially, 100% try. Of course we’ll always have a roof over our heads, but once we sell this house we’ll be in and out of apartments in two different states, and I don’t know when we’ll start building in WA. I sort of want to have a baby and bring it home to it’s permanent home.
Soooooo do I still have to get you something for your birthday? I mean, you never spend $10,000 on me… 🙂
Congrats on the beginning of your exciting journey!!
This is so exciting! I hope the process goes smoothly and quickly and I can’t wait to hear all about it!
ohhh i am sooo excited for ya… and smack Joe for his comment lol… men!
How exciting!!! Sending you best wishes!
Congratulations! Good for you guys. I had a work friend a few years ago who had their baby through IVF. They wanted a baby so bad, and they got one and were thrilled. I’m sure we will hear more about it as the process starts to take place:-)
Congratulations! I really feel your excitement and joy, it’s contagious 🙂
Hi Cady,
The best advice I can give you is .. please don’t get excited too much and build your hopes. Be aware of the success rates that your clinic has and steady yourself for the worst. Remember, a success rate of 25% for example, means that, on average you need to undergo the procedure 4 times for a successful result. There are a number of hurdles along the way and it’s heart-breaking when something goes wrong.
Don’t lose hope however. We have a gorgeous boy (Arthur) who was the result of our 4th IVF (ICSI actually) procedure and now we know it was all worth it. However, when the first procedure failed we were devastated; when the second failed it didn’t get any better; on our third cycled we only had 1 viable follicle so the procedure was abandoned. It took quite a bit of determination to go through the fourth (which would have been our last attempt) and you can’t imagine how we felt when it all worked!
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and will be keeping my fingers crossed for your success!
Regards
Owen
Just to add .. I do know a number of people who were successful on their first attempt, so don’t let our experience discourage you.
Happy birthday and congratulations. That’s a big step. One my husband and I will never be able to make. Haha.
Congrats! That’s really exciting. I’m so happy for you! 🙂

i don’t know how you’ll be able to contain your excitement until the new year! that is awesome news and i’m so excited for you and joe. i’ve said it before, but you guys are going to be GREAT parents.
I’m holding out really happy thoughts for you guys! I pray that you get that baby you want for your birthday :). I had to laugh at Joe’s comment about how you never spend $10,000 on him, lol.
I’ll be praying for you as you begin this journey. How exciting for you and your husband! Just curious, are you still able to take your RA meds?
What a *terrific* birthday present that would be! I sure hope that you guys have luck the first time around, but if you don’t, just keep hanging in there! Wow, next year will sure be a *special* one for you! 🙂 I can’t wait for you to get pregnant so that I can hear all about your journey and buy things for your baby. 🙂
