Someone is breaking into our house in the middle of the night and using the internet on Joe’s cell phone. Either that, or our cats found a way to use the phone because we keep getting charged for internet usage on his phone at 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Representatives at AT&T say he’s accidentally accessing the internet. That’s kind of hard with a Blackjack which locks the keypad after a few seconds and when he’s in bed sound asleep. Besides, Joe doesn’t even know *how* to use the internet on that phone. He just has it because my brother didn’t take it with him to Taiwan. In Joe’s words, he wants a phone that makes and receives calls and can take pictures That’s all he uses it for. And, if he was using the internet in the middle of the night, he’d be accessing it on our computer, not on a cell phone. The representative I’ve been dealing with also said that someone may be stealing Joe’s phone and using the internet. I can totally see that happening at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Seriously? Are you kidding me?
I’m seriously at the end of my rope with AT&T. I think we’ll seriously start talking about switching to a different carrier. I’m tired of being charged for services I don’t use.
Joe says
For the record I can use the internet on my phone. I just don’t! Except in the middle of the night. 🙂

oh, yes… we have had serious problems with AT&T, too. LH and i cannot stand them and are so ready for our contract to be up so we can get another carrier. they’ve double charged us, added phantom charges like you mentioned and their customer service has gone downhill so fast in the past year or so. hopefully they took the charges off your bill after you called to dispute it.

Hahaha Thats so annoying!! Nothing worse than paying for something you haven’t done..Or paying for something your cat is doing…Put him to work make him work it off 😛

How annoying! And time consuming – I’m sure you must have to spend hours on the phone trying to sort this out 🙁

My mom had phantom internet charges on her phone too. Turns out that not knowing how to use the internet on her phone meant not knowing when she had turned it on. Haha.

Sounds like he’s sleep-browsing .. we all do funny things in our sleep!
Actually, my PC downloading updates on it’s own overnight. Maybe the phone is doing the same?

Is it possible someone ‘cloned’ the phone? Then they can charge their calls to you using their own phone. The middle of the night timing might relate to a cloned phoned used in another country.

Oh my gosh!! That totally happened to me a few months ago! The same thing! I ended up actually going into a store and yelling at someone. I was fed up. When our contract is up next year I’m switching back to Verizon. That’s who I had before we got married and he talked me into switching to his plan… big mistake!!
Mark says
If it was me getting these bills I would cancel my contract and refuse to pay the disputed charges! Let them threaten to take you to court and I bet they don’t go ahead with it
Sugar & Ice says
My poor husband accidentally sends text messages to the first person on his contact list all the time b/c his key guard somehow releases itself and dials the number…lol…but of course, this doesn’t cost us any money, it’s just annoying. I highly recommend Verizon. We’ve had it for about four years and have no complaints.
Julie says
Oh man, what a pain to deal with! I hope you can get it straightened out! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Diane Scott says
Believe it or not, gasp!, I don’t even own a cell phone. But I most certainly commiserate with your troubles and having to deal with any phone company at any time is a royal pain in the arse. Good luck!

Someone already asked what I was wondering, if someone cloned the ohone.
Is it possible a button is stuck or something and he doesn’t know it’s connecting?
